Title: EGR Pressure

Hello,
I made a plate to cover the egr hole with the plate that covers the chip on the ecmwhen I removed the ecm not thinking there would be alot of pressure here.   The plate blew out of the bracket at the top and folded over.  My question is should there be enough pressure at that point to do that or is something possibly wrong.   I hope I just used too thin of a piece of material. 
 
What do you think?  Also I read somewhere that I could fill the hole with jb weld is that true?  Thanks

It has quite a bit of exhaust pressure on it...and I still say that was a larger problem than a leak in the ic hose!  the leaness caused by the egr is a much larger amount of air being shoved into the system than a hose leak can suck in.  With the egr valve being stuck open, you were getting full flow

I wouldn't use any JB Weld. Buy an aftermarket block off plate and be done with it.

I think they quit selling the plates because some had problem with them leaking.  Mine did not.

You can make a thicker plate and hold it down with the egr bracket, or you can stick a working egr in the hole and clamp it down....by working, I mean one that the plunger is in the proper position instead of being jammed up.

I've read alot of post of guys having trouble with the plates leaking.  What process did you use to prevent the plate from leaking.  Thin coat of rtv?. 
I also noticed from looking at the pictures on several of the vendors websites that sell the plate that they use only the one bolt.  I'm wondering if I use the hold down plate with the block off plate would it work better?

I used some high temp rtv.  At the moment, I don't remember if I used the stock clamp, or not.  Will try to remember to look tomorrow.

I'm amazed that one bolt on the bottom can ever work. That's why I never tried. Here's my solution...

Much better solution (Earl's solution).  The plates need a reinforcing ridge on them to even out the clamping.

Size of the taps Earl?  Sure looks bigger that 1/4NPT  :O

3/8NPT on the bottom. That one's easy, just tap it and go.

The top hole is 1/2NPT and it starts off as a rectangle. You really need a mill (or a damn nice drill press) to get that one. The tap drill barely cleans up the four corners so you have to be dead nuts centered.

X2 on earls mod.  I copied that awhile back. 
I just tapped the bottom.
the top I didn't worry about since I am using the rjc plenum plate without the egr hole drilled.  Just put a lil bit of silicone on the gasket right there and called it good.

I wonder if the stock egr being made of steel is why they don't seem to leak like some of the alum block off plates?
