New, already just received from Kirban.s: a few spare orig lug nuts, braces: rear seat braces, lower front chassis brace, and the 2 small braces for the underneath, none installed yet,

Want to help me with my bills?
I thought you would never go to Lou again?

How about I give some installations for Christmas?

Lou and I spoke a while back, and in the event of the conversation I asked him if he had a .63 Garrett turbo exhaust housing. He said the he might have one, but did not know where it was. I told him that I was interested if he found it. Limit Engr, or any other turbo builder for that matter, will not supply a .63 housing on their turbos, as the housing is getting very hard to get. They all are using the new PT & E which gives more horse at top end, but needs a convertor otherwise low end boost is history. Slow spool. Lou mentioned on a post on tb.com that he had a housing that I could have. I went to pick it up, Lou would not only not take any money for it, he gave me the .63 Garrett exhaust housing with the balance of the turbo attached. I have come to the conclusion that I am probably one of the worst people to get along with, I am impossible to deal with on quality/cosmetic issues, and we all know that I am not exactly the height of openmindedness . So FWIW, in the past, I probably have blamed other people for some of my shortcomings. Not intentional, mind you, it's just my basic nature. I have a hard time putting up with myself most of the time. I need to see the other persons viewpoints sometimes. I am planning on support Lou and giving him my motor work, and all of my suspension work to Tim Lee of DonLee Auto in Rancho Cucamonga. I want to have a nice turbo Buick that does not have to take any lickings at the next stoplight from the import crowd. Lou installed my 165

Want to help me with my bills?
No, unless you have a really cute sister that likes dirty old men.
Oh, and doesn't look like you with longer hair.
-
Grr...
All you need a pickle fork and sledge hammer and your whole suspension is done...

Brian: I really appreciate the offer, and I know that you are always there if I need you, and that I can count on you in a pinch, but I have been away from actually working on anything on a car that as long as I can afford to take the car to a competnet Buick mechanic, I am pretty happy. Do consider something, though, and that is that you might feel the same way as I do when you are my age. What I really miss, though, is your bartending skills in off the wall places. Somehow, I never drink at the house anymore, and for what reason I don't know, but I always drag a few beers along with me to the car shows, or a spiked Pepsi or 2. Pepsi and a good stiff shot or two of Jack doesn't make for a bad quick buzz. It's just the come down and realize that everything is back to normal.

Holy shit! You went back!?! Is there something in the air...'cause what I gather from the posts about Rob...he went back for something too!

Gary, it takes a man to admit his shortcomings (not meant to be a joke but in all seriousness).
Merry Christmas All!

More money saving tips. Consider this if you ever order a turbo from anyone other that the turbo builder. When I talked to Pete Hoffman at Kirban Performance about the turbo purchase Pete quoted me about $920 or $930 to my door, don't really remember which, everything included, $749.95 for the turbo, $75. core charge for the turbo, $50 for the machined inlet bell, $ 10 for shipping and the balance, I assume was to cover exchange for polishing the comp housing. He advised that it could add a week or 2 for the polished housing. I told him that was fine. When Diana called me back, she informed me that the bill was $ 949.95 total. When I questioned her about the increase, she informed me that Pete told her to charge me that much. She was charging $ 129.95 for the polishing of the comp housing. She asked if I wantd it or not, and informed me that it would ship out Monday. I informed her that time was not an issue, and she informed me didn't matter. How many people have already guessed that Kirban probably has a policy and they make the claim that they can't charge till the product ships, and removing the comp housing and sending it out to be polished would keep them from charging this year due to the 2 week time delay for polishing, So they charged me full bogey price for the outright sale of a polished comp housing. I should have refused the quote, had them send me the turbo with a non-polished comp housing, which would have reduced my bill $ 129.95, and then either order the polished comp housing as a seperate item for $ 129.95, then have Lou swap them out, and I would have the polished comp housing on the turbo and 1 plain non polished comp housing to either hold on to for future use, or sell for the same amount of money. I definitely feel that Kirban took advantage of this situation, and I will, and I suggest that you also, take this into strong consideration when ordering anything, especially from Kirban. Maybe they were in a hurry to close their books for the end of the fiscal year, which is what I suppose happened, had a polished comp housing in stock, and swapped them out so they could ship and charge. In either case, it was not fair to me. FWIW, Kirban's sells the polished turbo comp housing outright for $ 129.95, about right for a outright polished comp housing sale. Also installed by Lou , but purchased by me, was RJC's hybird boost controller. Car does definitely run stronger. More to follow, and I really hope that you guys learn from my mistakes and lack of judgement on these items. Monday I am going to have Lou install the RJC plenum distribution plate, and I am sure that he will add the cost of the GNX sensor to the bill. I will do a follow-up on that also.

Gary,

I guess this is going to be the "gary the slut" thread. I am going to keep everybody up to date on my trials and tribulations with mechanics, vendors, and progress or lack of it on the car. I am open to suggestions & comments. This is going to be my "X-Mas present to everybody, excepting for Sylvan, which it will be X-menos present to him", so that others do not have to go through what I have been through, or where I am going to go through. I am merely going to "observe and report" and you guys can be the judge of the events. I have already learned more about a vendor than I would like to have learned.
-
And you guys call me a parts whore? For the past 3 months I have made an effort not to looks at any of the boards parts for sale forums, or ebay. That will change soon as I need to catch up to my goals for Project Evil. The trailer however, is paid for in full...I just need to decide which one and when I want it but the cash is socked away. I can't believe how much an enclosed car trailer costs...and without the bells & whistles.

Congrats Gary.Thats very noble of you. A small piece of advice
based on my past experience: unless you're using a stock chip, don't
use the GNX sensor. That sensor caused my car to run too rich.
Most aftermarket chips are calibrated to work with a stock O2 sens,
whereas the stock chip is programmed a little on the lean side for fuel economy.
So the GNX sensor will help make up for the lean condition of a stock chip.
Merry Christmas. :supz: :atbeer:

The RJC power plate doesn't increase boost, but it allows you to run more
boost because it balances out the air flow to the cylinders. In a stock Buick
V6, the two center cylinders run lean (thus more prone to create knock).
The power plate will correct that condition. You should be able to get away
with just the power plate, but not all cars are the same. Only trial and error
testing will determine that for sure. If you increase the boost level, other
modifications will be necessary. The GNX O2 sensor will send a leaner signal
to the ECM as compared to the stock O2 sensor when presented with the
exact same air fuel ratio. In response the ECM will richen the mixture more than
it woul with a stock O2 sensor.

argue with Lou

Update on car:
Yesterday I took the car to Lou for the RJC Airflow Distribution Power Plate, and I had him go ahead and grind out the exhaust housing puck area, just to be on the safe side. He charged me $85 on each, but in the course of installation of the RJC Power Plate, he noticved that I had removed the factory boost control solenoid from the passanger side valve cover to clean it up, and I just hung the wiring down in the front of the motor. Lou asked why, and i told him that the valve cover looked much cleaner without it. He chastised me and advised taht I should be getting a code, and the car could go into limp dick mode. I told him that the Service engine soon check light had been non-functional from the time that I bought the car. I told him that when i had the car "Pre-smogged" a while back, my vette dealer wanted $ 200 or $300 to look at it, and they flunked me on the pre-smog. Lou asked "Do I mind if he looks at it" No, I replied. It turned out to be a loose connection, he repaired it, and now I have a check engine light, just like I should have. He fixed it for free, where my idiot vette dealer wanted $ 200 or $300, can't remember which. So now the car really runs crisp, 15 lbs of boost, and no knock retard
-
Sounds good. I run a Dutt necked stoc IC, but I'm sure that the
Thunderfab would be alot better.
-
I would naturally rather have the Thunderfab, but there is a price difference of $ 275 and my old one for a core charge for a Lou Czarnota dutt necked stock intercooler as compared to $ 670 shipped, I believe, for the Thunderfab. What's my stock one worth, virtually flawless, 17K mile intercooler, not a nick or a ding, but it is only a stock ic, and they are only worth so much. Because the Thunderfab is longer, probably the equivalent of a intercooler and a half, it would keep away heat soak a while longer, not that I am going to race, though. Installation labor will probably be a little more on the thunderfab, though. Lou offered me $ 85 on installation his dutt necked.

Why dont you just turn up the boost and stop spending money.....?
-
Why dont you just turn up the boost and stop spending money.....?
....or sell the Vette and have only one hungry intake to feed.

----------------------------------------
Look for that to happen within the next year. I will have to find another turboBuick before i sell the vette. Vette is the daily driver and allows the turbobuick to stay home in bed where it bleongs.
-
Just think, Sylvan & Phil, my car might be as fast as you guys in a while?
-
Why dont you just turn up the boost and stop spending money.....?
-------------------------------------
Because I would like for my car to last for a while, unlike you.
J/k, Phil, any progress on the car?
-
Just think, Sylvan & Phil, my car might be as fast as you guys in a while?
Perfectly still isn't very fast, Gary. lol
-
Still? Did you mean your car, Phil's car, or mine?
-
Still? Did you mean your car, Phil's car, or mine?
I mean mine.....and it sounds like Phil's is not doing so hot, either. Hopefully this here cam sensor will fix my shit.

-----------------------------------------------
Well, hell, if your car is not running, and Phil's is not running too hot either, let's all go racing. I might actually have a chance.
-
Hey, hey, mine runs! It just looks like a pile of shit.
-
Mine runs great....it's just getting it to start that's a problem.
-
Sylvan: What is the car doing when you try and start it?
Does it start but only run at a very fast idle?
-
Sylvan: What is the car doing when you try and start it?
Does it start but only run at a very fast idle?
No, it just cranks and cranks but never fires....if you start it with ether, it fires right up and once it's going it runs like a top. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, other than the cam sensor has been swapped and nothing has solved the problem. Oh well, new cam sensor came in today.

------------------------------------------
Hope everything works out ok on that, keep me posted. What does the ether do. I would not think that ether would make up for a bad cam sensor. On the other hand,
I wouldn't know anyhow.
-
Did you take the cap off to check the window?
-
Gary, on your car, what does Neal specify for boost on his chip ?
Phil's probably right... 15#'s seems low. I'm running 22#'s with
93 oct and a thrasher chip. Most street chips are usually around 18#'s.
Sylvan, I hope that the cam sensor helps. :prayer:
-
If it's anywhere near mine, it's 17#'s on 91. I think he turned up the boost and pulled back some timing, but that's on mine.
-
Neal ussually runs very low timing something like 15 degrees I think... its low I know that or is it 18 I cant rememeber but I know its low.
My car: TA60 is on and runs and sounds better.
But nope still cant hammer it down without showing knock. I can role into is really slow and its ok for the most part, most of the time.
I dont know.... I need to do the brakes that is priority now.
-
Ok, I confess, when i talked to Neal by e-mail, he told me that the timing was set at 17
-
Leave a message on Neal's machine with a phone number, he'll get back to you.

All's well. I just got a hold of him, and everythings kool. 17
-
Have you done exhaust yet? Need the growl to match the bite.
-
Yep, was the first mod done, SS THDP, TH 2 way cat, hooker Cat Back with hooker Aerochambers.
-
That sounds great. Maybe I'll get to see it someday.
Remember when installing the rear seat braces, to
have the car supported on a lift or jackstands. After the install
when its back on all fours, the braces will be pre-loaded.
-
Maybe that where I fucked up... well, actually, my first mistake was buying the Kenne Bell sheet metal one...
-
Maybe that where I fucked up... well, actually, my first mistake was buying the Kenne Bell sheet metal one...
-----------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't bet on that, Brian. I know some people that liked the Kenne-Bell one more than the Kirban one, but I called a while back, and they had virtually nothing left for Buicks.
-
Sadly enough, Kenne-Bell is more about Fords and Dodge these days.

Update: Update;
Ok, yesterday, I took the car to Tim Lee of Don Lee Auto in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca. and had them install the missing # 3 & 4 lower & GNX upper body bushings, Kirban front & rear springs, Kirban rear seat brace, Kirban front frame braces, & the connecting frame brace, & viola, the car is now considerably more responsive in the handling aspect. Made a world of difference. labor cost was 6 hours @ $69 an hour, or $ 414 total. After watching them install everything, there was nothing there that I wished that I would have done myself to save the money. Between the cost of the parts and the labor, I can really say that it was money well spent, and I can honestly say that short of upper & lower rear control arms and a set of GNX replica 16" rims & matching tires, I am pretty much done with the suspension, unless I decide to get into exotica such as rear discs, which might come later. Car is much more enjoyable to drive than when I first started. Well, back to the motor, got the Thunderfab intercooler the other day, and all I am waiting on is the Thunderfab passenger side mounting bracket & then the Thunderfab intercooler will go on. Hopefully, the bracket comes in today's shipment, and then I am off to lou's tomorrow morning for installation. Boy, I see Champion smog ported irons looming up in the near future. Maybe a small cam?
-
Good for you! I know it makes the car much more enjoyable to drive.

Alright! I'm looking at an Isky myself, just to be different.

-
ah a 208/208 ..... good choice
-
I'm more worried about the cut on the lobes so #3 exhaust doesn't wipe.
-
I'm still contemplating going to a roller setup to avoid that.
-
Does the block need to be modded for the setup? What does it involve?
-
What would a stage II long block minus the heads & intake bringt? Never bored, a dozen passes, 3/8"(?)...something about being one of the indy motors, a Siemens? Has the cam, crank, etc...but it needs heads & intake.
I have been offered one...but the price seems steep to me.
-
Does the block need to be modded for the setup? What does it involve?
No. Everything bolts in.
Gordy, as for the stage block. There are a few variations, so the price
also varies. Unless you're planning on 9's or faster, they're just not necessary.

Bringing one back from the dead!
