Title: HP TouchPad
Post by: Steve Wood on August 30 2011, 08:19:27 PM
I managed to snag one of the 32gb fire sale Touchpads.

After upgrading, and some aftermarket clean ups....the damn thing really works well.   They sold 100s of thousands in the past week....one of the best deals I have gotten in a long time.

Good for you! I tried to get one online during the initial flurry but was just a little too slow.

Lucky SOB. My company bought 630 of them for resale, then the PO got pulled. We have 200 coming in in a new PO (supposedly) but our cost is 199.

I don't *need* one, but would like to have one to fiddle with.

the software is full of logging hooks...once all that is turned off, it really perks up.  I also overclocked it to 1.5 from 1.2 and added a few other gray market tweaks...for the price, it is a helluva deal.  I see they are going to make a few more..probably out of the parts they had committed to...but, I bet the price does go up some.  the 16 gig for $100 is probably a better deal.  Be interesting to see how android and ubuntu port over.

Now, I want a Galaxy S II which they finally introduced over here today after about six months of selling it elsewhere

Unless they fixed the "Bricking" problem I'd stay away from Samsung Galaxy.
I believe they had another reception problem they tried to slough onto Google.
HTC FTW

right now, HTC has nothing I want...good phones tho.  I have not heard of many problems with the S2.   Few make as good a phone part as Moto, imo, when it comes to signal.  My son has the evo 3d and it is pretty good.  His wife's Photon works places where his is struggling to stay connected.

Only problem is that by the time they bring the phones here, they are beginning to introduce the next models overseas....

Before someone pops in and tells me how wonderful, LG's are, save your breath

I wouldn't waste your time suggesting an LG [low grade] product.
You might want to look at an Atrix though,if you like the SGS2.
BTW: I have a Sensation.
Not bad,not bad at all.

Atrix is out of date, but, not a bad phone.  Back in the spring, it looked good.  The Sensation is a nice phone.  It might be second on my list.  I am going with the Galaxy.  No more Iphones for me...Even jail broken, Apple is still a pain.  ATT is the only major phone company in my area..otherwis e I would go Sprint and take their 4.5" version of the Galaxy.

I hear Sprint will be getting the iPhone 5....

I'm still rocking my free Tmobile Samsung Behold II, with Android 1.6! woot!

The ONLY phone I might pay something for is the Motorola Defy. "old" phone, but I like the toughness of it.

I've heard different things about Moto Blur.
How do you like it?

I've never used it. The only touch screen phone I have experience with is the old-ass Behold II I got free from Tmobile.

Speaking of which:

I really like T mobile - but will move to Sprint or Verizon if the merger goes through. I thoroughly hate AT&T.

I can only go by what my son said how his wife's Photon...but, he said it was much better that it once was.

They also say the new Samsung TouchWiz is light years ahead of the prior version.  But, one can always root the phone and dump it.  As you probably know better than me, Sammy has been passing out rom dumps to guys on the xda forums to play with so hacks should be available immediately

Always aggravates me when they load the phone up with stuff you cannot delete

lol...has to fit a t shirt pocket....I do wish it was the 4.5 instead of the 4.3 version....but at least it did not have the idiotic slide out keyboard that all the sites were claiming for ATT/

Yeah,it is pretty cool.
The first thing I learned about pocket PC's is:

Never carry them in anything but a pouch or case of some sort.
A pocket is just too easy to drop them from or crush them in.
You'll usually find a carrying case has a place for a stylus as well.....come to think of it,I think the Note comes with a case.
The more I look at it............ . :player:
