OK this is just AWESOME. I am having the damnedest time getting my key out of the ignition lock cylinder. It will turn and start and return to ON/RUN position but I cannot get it to turn back where the steering wheel locks and the key can come out. I've wiggled and jiggled and twisted and turned and its just not happening. I thought the problem was a worn out key so I got copies made of my second(good) key. It doesn't matter which key I use they are all giving me an extreme case of the shidts getting them back out of the lock cylinder. Do I need to adjust something? What? Do I need a new ignition lock cylinder?
The problem has been getting consistently worse. I fear the next time I may not get the key back.

Have you done the standard, "grab the collar at the base of the column-just before it goes into the dash- and rotate it ccw" and then turn the key off?

^^^ This.
I have to turn the collar a bit to the left on the 87T to remove the key after shifting into Park.
The column linkage needs to be adjusted.
Here's the adjustment pint - the upper right, where it says "This bar coming down from the column shift..." Disregard the welding comment.

At what age does senility start to set in?
I've had this problem before and found it in a search.
Wow.
dumass, this isn't the first time (http://www.turbobuicks.com/forums/buick-v6-turbo-tech/82588-how-adjust-linkage-lets-you-take-key-out-when-tranny-park.html)
Thing is I'm backslipping. I had it better diagnosed the first time it happened.

Anywho the problem is fixed and we have another searchable tech thread here.

the good thing about senility is that you can still remember things from fifteen years ago, but, you cannot remember the ugly woman you woke up with this morning
-
btw, often the grommet that goes into the Park lock arm coming out of the steering column just in front of the firewall goes bad, disappears, wears, or simply gets fucked up...that allows wasted motion in the rod from the tranny that activates the park lock and allows the key to be removed...alwa ys a good idea to look at it as well. Sometimes fixing that will negate the need to mess with the adjustment

I done already done didded the adjustmet Teve. If my premature senility allows me to remember I'll check that out next this same problem inevidibly rears its ugly head.
