Title: Honda/Acura SUCKS
Post by: SuperSix on August 11 2011, 11:41:18 PM
So - the wifey and I headed out to Subway to grab some sammiches.

After about 30 minutes, our neighbor knock on the door to tell me her brake lights are stuck on - it's a '96 Integra with 180k on it.

I go out and look, sure enough, the brake lights are stuck on. I figure it has to be the brake light switch.

I crawl under the dash, a feat in itself, and I notice a hold i the brake pedal arm where the brake light switch should be making contact and opening the circuit.

Seems there a plastic button that the switch hits, I find this out as I look on the floorboard and see the pieces.

I ended up cutting down a GM door bumper as a temp fix - seems it's a recurring issue with these cars.

Who the fuck designed something like that?

I cant find it at Rock Auto - I need some gaskets and figured I would throw it in with the order. Dealer sells them for ~$3.00 or so.

Should I just JBWeld a nickel in there?

And to top it off, she came home tonight and said the A/C is blowing very little cool air.  :013: :013:

I REALLY like the Acura TL headlights.  I think I'm going to retrofit a set of those onto my GN.  I've already done it with my Lightning and they KICK ASS.

I tried to upload pics but your website sucks ass.  My pics are to big.  I'll have to shrink them and try again.  Tired of this computer right now so I'll get back later today/tonight.

Here are some pics.  This is before I fine tuned the installation.  This is the first test fit.  I did have to align them better so that the headlight housings fit 'straighter' or without as much correction to aim the headlight.  They now fit without the huge gaps created by the extreme adjustments needed at first to put the light on the road.

If I ever have to go back into the housings I am going to take the Angel Eyes off.  I don't like how they look when they are not turned on......and I'm not going to drive around at all times with my parking lights on.

And they don't look bright enough to be daytime running lights

Very nice!

WOuld there be a way to relay them on when the engine is running?

I like the look.

No Dave they wouldn't make good daytime runners.  They are bright enough actually but it just looks stupid to have Angel Eye daytime runners.  If I did that I'd need some flyboy stickers and a big fuggin wing to complete the package.

The Angel Eyes are a completely seperate add on.  I could make them do whatever I want.  I used a bezel that is designed to have a clean front profile.  I should have used a bezel with a clear trim ring that I could have put the Angel Eyes behind.  That way the look is still clean when the Eyes are off.  I had the project nearly complete when I found a source for the Angel Eyes and decided to add them on.

The light output is nothing short of awesome.  I'm using 5k 55watt HIDs and the lazer-sharp cutoff keeps oncoming traffic safe from my death-ray intensity headlights.  When I'm next to someone on a 4 lane hwy I light the road in front of their cars better than their lights can.  The Buick NEEDS this.

I'm sure here's a market for a kit..  How much did the setup cost you in parts?

I've thought about doing a set and advertising the service but the Buick crowd is so fucking cheap that I would never get a fair price for my work.  The Acura parts cost about $200.  I had a HID kit laying around that I used for the electronics/lights.  The trim work, Angel Eyes, paint, fiberglass, ect. came to ~ $80ish.  Having awesome lighting at night with even awesomer HID highbeams - Priceless.

The same bulb does both high and low beams so when you switch to high you don't have a warm up delay that HIDs are known for.

Any plans to put them on your Brick?

Yeah.  I'm trying to figure out just how I'm going to do that.  Having 4 headlights is somewhat of a challenge.  I'd like for it to look like it was factory installed but the 4 headlights pose a problem.

Could you make the inside hi-beams dummies? Lenses without the expensive HD guts?

Just spitballin' here.

I'd rather not have dummies.  Stop laughing.  What I'm thinking is some sort of cool daytime running lights in the highbeam holes.  Problem is that the low-tech look of our headlights is signature to the look of the car.  Its going to be a challenge to update the headlights without comprimising the traditional GN look.  All of the projector style housings (that are worth a damn) are round and to fit that into the square light opening will make it look 'Ghetto Redneck Fabulous'.
