lines break every day here from the drouth. Right now, one of the wells is down for overhaul and we are on restrictions.. altho we should be on restrictions anyway as wells are drying up all over the place. No water in the two creeks that go across the back of my place...now they are forecasting another year of this. I am ready for a hurricane to hit the coast. I don't care if it blows Corpus Christi into my yard...I just want rain.
-
The fire deparments have been busy today. I saw 5 trucks pass my place so far today and one of the fires was less than a mile from me. My neighbor is worried about his longhorns since they don't have much to eat but plenty to drink. The goats look like hell and if someone throws a cig out the window near me we maight end up with a fire in what was once considered a pasture.

I feel bad for complaining about all the rain we get here now...everyday, every afternoon.

Time to summon the rain Gods...before it drives poor Stevie Wood insane.

You should, you're hogging all the rain! Typical Californian... :013:
I have a friend who's i the beef/cattle/farming business and said we should expect a lot of price increases due to this drought..

Insanity is a state of mind-just like Texas

Looks like we are the ones stealing the rain...

Just to give you guys and idea, I don't water the lawn, I water the dogs. :add_wegbrech: They don't like the water spray from the hose and will bite at it. They bark and chase it like a real animal but it cools them down and it's really funny to watch them chase it. They dig into the ground to get to a cooler place and will just lay down in it for a while. :icon_lol: My dogs are the closest thing I have to kids so I have to make sure they're happy and safe.

my dogs come first...

I watch the news in PA wondering how it's affecting Steve and Charlie, knowing it can't be good. I'm on a well here at the shop/apartments and now is when we tend to run out of water. Minimal, it seems, compared to what you're up against. How often does this happen and how have you dealt with before?

Not yet...we'll find out by the end of next week if I'm gonna be a Californian...

We've got 1 well and one tank and we're on public water in my neighborhood. If we use the well for more han 30 minutes it goes dry, but can use it again in an hour. That's about the only thing that worries me right now. I know our well's shallow but some of the deep wells are going dry with the weather like it is.

We are trying to ship Californians to Mexico, or Guatemala. We don't need anymore of them!

Well, find me a Safety & Occupational Health job in TX and I'll come there and help you turn wrenches and walk your goats for you. Or you could buy a helicopter and hire me as your personal pilot to chauffeur you around.
We'll find out soon though...just got my itinerary today from the company that's flying me out to CA for the interview.
-
BTW, the rain came fast, hard, and sideways today...it literally pressure washed my Rodeo in the driveway. It's rained just about every day for weeks on end here and they still say we're not where we're supposed to be...

Got any hours in anything else? Cessna Caravan, Dash-8? you've already got the 100ft off the ground thing done.
-
9:45 pm and it has cooled down to 97. I might get you a job as a chopper pilot for varmint hunters...
-
2205 hours here and it's still 93. Not fun at all and I finished at the the shop at 2030 hours.

Moving to Texas!
Dear Diary,
Just moved to Texas ! Now this is a state that knows how to live!!
Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. It is beautiful. I've
finally found my home. I love it here.
June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an
air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to
see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.
June 30th:
Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus
and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing the lawn for me.
Another scorcher today, but I love it here.
July 10th:
The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used
to this kind of heat? At least, it's kind of windy though. But getting
used to the heat is taking longer than I expected.
July 15th:
Fell asleep by the community pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my
body. Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my
lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.
July 20th:
I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this
morning. By the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen
up to the size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The
car now smells like Kibbles and Shits. I learned my lesson though. No more
pets in this heat. Good ol' Mr. Sun strikes again.
July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's
hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman
charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.
July 30th:
Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and
I can't even go inside. Lomita is the lucky one. Why did I ever come
here?
Aug. 4th:
Its 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost
$500 and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid state.
Aug. 8th:
If another wise ass cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to
strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is
boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!
Aug. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on
the seats in the car, I thought my ass was on fire. My skin melted to the
seat. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass . . .
Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.
Aug 10th:
The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny.
Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do shit for 2 damn months
and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it
ever rain in this damn state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700
worth of cactus will just dry up and blow over. Even the cactus can't live in
this damn heat.
Aug. 14th:
Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus are dead. Forgot
to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The
Installer came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for
you today?" My sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking
Texas . What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here??
Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.

Charlie,
There is a very similar posting that we get up here in Canada in the winter and it has to do with the snow and the cold weather. Once I get again this winter hopefully I will remember to repost it here.
Thanks for the laugh. What do you guys do in the summer if you have to work on your cars? I assume most garage's have AC?

LOL It would be nice to have AC in the shop but it's not practical. I've got several different fans in the shop to help stay comfortable myself. I don't use AC except at night in my bedroom. The reason behind it is to be more climitized to the weather so I don't suffer as much. I can't sleep hot but I can work hot after all. :add_wegbrech:
-
I wrenched today - hot as hell, and even more humid. I was soaked in sweat. The key is LOTS of cold fluids, and a few fans. I would love to have a garage with A/C, I don't see it happening. I work in my driveway, as I have too much shit in my garage - but I have 2 big oaks trees that provide a lot of shade.
