Title: Seat Belt Question
Post by: Scoobum on August 05 2011, 12:18:44 PM
On this 1994 Impala SS  I have, the drivers side front seat belt doesn't like rolling back up when released. Is there a way of cranking up the return pressure...or is the roll up mechanism fuked and I have to buy a new one?

There may be a way to tweak it - but personally, I would NEVER mod anything to do with the seatbelt/restraint system.

you should be able to get a cheap replacement used off of eBay or an impala SS board.

I have a similar problem with the Eldorado - the driver's side shoulder portion doesn't retract. I got a replacement from the junkyard. The seat belt color is tan, not gray, but good enough for a driver.

I had an 84 Camaro that had a simular issue. There was a recall on them because of this same issue. Take your VIN and call the dealer and see if there's a recall on it.

Good point - They *might* repair it for free.

I'm friends with the partsman here in town at my friendly GM dealer. I'll hit him up on Monday and see what he says about a recall. Thanks for the tip.

Even without a recall - there's a much longer time they have to repair safety devices. Not sure how long - good to check though.

I'll be pounding on the Service Managers desk Monday morning. I drive them nuts up here making them go through the computer looking for Buick parts for me.

I smoked the clutch on the air con compressor on the Impala...so I've been trying to hunt down one of those. The new turbo showed up for the GN...so it's getting my attention this weekend. I'm gonna drop by the dealer Monday...and I'll let you know what they say.
