I've had a chance to shoot one at a local shop/range.

I picked up a S&W 686 .357, Saiga 12 gauge, and a Bushmaster Carbon 15 with Optics today.

Drilled out the trigger assembly on the Saiga to move it forward, but the kit didn't come with a retainer plate so will have to order it.

Gordy, Carolina Shooters Supply seems to be one of the better Saiga places to do business with.

cheap as 7.62x39 is...you might as well buy the Saiga in that caliber and convert it too....better weapon than the cobbled together AK's that Century sells..., imo

So FN made a mini-M16 and put high velocity rounds into it, eh? Like Dave said it is going to lack stopping power. The reason you have high velocity rounds is to compensate for distance shooting; not something you want in a pistol which is really only effective under 50m.

Well if you want something that will have plenty of knock down power I've got a Mauser custom 300 win mag for sale right now.

Ya, but you gotta remember it was primarilly designed for military use, and more specifically, armor piercing.  There's a ton of different armor piercing ammo for it, but not available to the public.  They only brought out the standard rounds so the public could have something to use with this piece.

I'm looking for ideas on how to dress up that AR.  Anyone have any recommendation s?

Also, I'd like to find a gun safe...that doesn't look like a gun safe.

On the AR, it really depends on the use and the look.  Some like the Tacticool look with the foursided rails, but, I find them uncomfortable and not that much fun to shoot.  On the other hand, my son likes it and put a fore grip with a Crimson Trace built into it.   I have one that I built in 6.8x43 with a simple round fore end with slots for rail attachments that I prefer.

On the other hand, I admit to liking the skip flute rails that Harrison Beene puts on some of his rifles-see the 12" version pictured in this link

Eye candy to me and I think they are both functional and beautiful..but, taste is a many splendored thing.

My 6.8 upper is one of his.

I have another three lowers that I need to quit playing with cars and build.    Maybe a 7.62x39 and a .204....not sure what else

Being an actively serving Infantry Officer (and just promoted to Captain (one year accelerated no less)) I understand the purpose of the weapon but believe it to be misguided in its intended application. In the COE it is rare that the enemy has body armour (and usually just use life jackets), so in CQC it is going to be useless against our current OPFOR. This weapon is better served to be used on those of us in advanced/future soldier gear, so unless FN is making weapons for NATO to use against itself - I feel this weapon is moot; albeit cool (which is why civilians want one).

I'm looking for ideas on how to dress up that AR.  Anyone have any recommendation s?

Also, I'd like to find a gun safe...that doesn't look like a gun safe.

Just put Hello Kitty stickers on it.

LOL, thankfully I think Hello Kitty has run out of favor down here in the US...

But seriously, I was thinking of something like along the lines of an armoire or dining room cabinet or what not.  A friend of mine suggested a gun safe that replaces the box spring in the mattress that he saw advertised somewhere.

TBH, I haven't tried it in a hurry in the middle of the night...if we didn't have kids we'd probably have them hanging on hooks above the bed.

I would appreciate a comprehensive review of the gun, and, if at all possible, TRY to make it at least a little bit interesting (unlike most of your other posts).  :068:

I finally put about 200 rounds through the FN five-seven this afternoon.  Worked perfect.  The trigger is very crisp and I like the way it felt.  Not very much recoil at all.  Started shooting a little down and to the left but by the end of the session was consistently hitting in the center of a 5" circle.  I really like it.
