I have a NOS nylon gear. Can I still get a new chain that will work?

Why not replace the gear too? The rumors of steel gears causing false knock are overrated.

I wouldn't trust even a NOS nylon unit - unless I knew it wasn't more than a few years old.

How about overall noise in a stock muffled car?

I don't think there will be an obvious difference between a nylon gear and an aftermarket steel gear even with stock exhaust. Maybe 25 years ago when everthing was new??? Hell, you should only be hearing the turbo anyway :psix;

You guys hear electrons running up and down the wires?  Install a a match timing set.  Steel or nylon works fine for flat tappet cams without exotic spring pressure.
