...manage to stand straight up on the road so that it can punch itself directly into my tire? It seems like that would be impossible to orchestrate deliberately.

Have you noticed any black helicopters recently?
I've wondered about how screws get into tires like that.
Can semi tires be plugged?

I believe they have to be replaced due to DOT regulation. With the amount of air psi they hold, and the weight of the vehicle, I don't think a plug/patch will hold.

That's what I thought. Pretty expensive replacement.

I know the steer tires can not be patched/plugged, I am not sure about the others. Same rules apply for retreads, can not retread steer tires.

It was one of the drives. The company asked if maybe I could limp it 6 miles up the road so that they didn't have to pay for emergency service to come to me. Well, I did as they said but that caused the bolt to rub the now deflated tire's sidewall until there was a hole there too. lol They had planned to patch it, but that ruined it. So, they threw on my spare. I'm not sure how much the emergency service would've cost, but the tire is about $300. *This* is why I'm not an O/O.
