Chris...the thought of drunken 21 year old college students playing with guns scares me.
Statistics show that states that have concealed handgun licenses usually have reduced violent crimes, but, we could suddenly have a bunch of immature students carrying guns because they can that don't fully comprehend the responsibility of doing so.
We might prevent the Va Tech scenario..or minimize it...but we may have more individual shootings due to immaturity or stupidity.
I am a firm believer in the right to own guns, and to carry them in a controlled environment, but, this one makes me nervous.
-
I don't have an issue with it. Those that want to carry will, and those that don't, won't. They are legal adults, and can get permits off of campus, I don't see a huge difference letting them carry on campus.
The VA incident was because they guy was batshit crazy. Batshit crazy people will get guns regardless of this change.
-
I agree with that. Seems like when I was a kid, everyone knew who was batshit crazy and somehow, they were cut off before they pulled some stunt like that. These days, we seem to feel that the batshit crazy have a right to be batshit crazy and should not be controlled.
maybe society today just does not notice such?

Steve, I've always believed in the right to own a gun to protect yourself, but I'm with you. I just had two boys recently graduate from college and going to visit them on campus over the years gave me an opportunity to see how college boys behave and misbehave. The idea of those young, not yet mentally mature, young men bringing guns to their all night drinking parties scares the heck out of me.

I am not sure of other states, but in TN you have to be 21 to have a carry permit.
Then again, at 18 you can go die for your country, why not be able to carry a handgun.

21 in Tx

I think it's a good move. As previously stated anyone can carry off campus so why not on? How many 21 year old college students live on campus? Doesn't Texas ban the carrying at bars anyway? So that leaves them carrying at houses while drinking if they carry while drinking. I wish Indiana would make the same legislation.

A house is not the same as a bar, unfortunately. If party is going on in a "private" residence it isn't the same. What worries me is those that live on campus in the dorms. Just imagine a stable and an unstable room mate and the unstable one decides to go bonkers in the middle of the night. If it passes then they'll need to put lockers in the dorm rooms so a weapon can be locked up at night safely, other wise it's going to be a crap shoot, and the crap will be the neighbors in the dorm. :vom:

Smart money says that regardless of any change of the rules there would/will still be a higher rate of rapes and car accidents caused by alcohol on campus, but what I fear most is the lefty media getting ahold of even one gun related incident and twisting it into propaganda conducive to their cause.
What should be noted, I think, is that once upon a time in certain regions of this country 35 was nearly elderly. It's not the age, it's the upbringing.

only water guns should be allowed on campus

I'd give my opinion, but Chris Garrett isn't interested in my opinion. :-(
-
Since when have you waited for an invitation?

I am interested in your opinion.

Eh, I don't care about guns on campus.

If you are licensed, then I say yes.
