-
This is my Daily, car, Child and dog Hauler..
-
would that be a burb or a denali? either way killer truck!
-
Thanks, it's just a GMC Yukon XL, "Regency" conversion.
-
looks good! i almost got a regency silverado years back.. 5.3 reg cab 5 speed.
the yukon painful on gas?

'98 Isuzu Rodeo that we bought new. 160K+ miles and still going strong. I'm hoping to get 300K miles before it gives up the ghost. She still looks like new inside and out minus a little fading on some of the black exterior trim. About the only major thing to go wrong is a starter, alternator, O2 sensor and EGR. It's seeping radiator fluid/water, but not from the radiator...I think it's from the water pump, but it's going in the shop for a service Tuesday so hopefully it's nothing serious.

My wife drives an '06 Lexus GS430. This car surprised the hell out of me. I thought it would be a slug, but it is super fun to drive. Only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't have an aux input for an MP3 player so I had to buy a PNP kit for it (as well as an override PNP kit for the nav/DVD/BT bypass).
And my car hauler is an '06 GMC Sierra 2500HD. I don't drive it very much because of all the daily miles...plus it's long as hell and kinda difficult to maneuver sometimes. I haven't really done anything to it other than cosmetic stuff. I have a Hypertech programmer for it. I'll probably buy a cold air kit for it eventually.

gordy, look on fullsizedchevy .com there is somthing called the blackbear tune.. suposed to be incredible.
racerx.
i love me a d-max! my dad's is great. he has a LLY witch is dubed the worst d-max because of the overheating problems. i've yanked 16k through pa in the summer with the ac on doing 75-80 damn truck dont miss a beat! the fan will come on and the trans warms up but that thing is an animal!
i'd love a suv but none next to the tahoe tow. and.. i'm not dropping 50k on a suv.. sorry.
right now what i'm thinking is:
silverado 1500 crew cab
2500 crewcab d-max
2500 mega cab dodge with a cummins.
i'd be buying new.. every time i buy used i get fucked.
-
looks good! i almost got a regency silverado years back.. 5.3 reg cab 5 speed.
the yukon painful on gas?
On the Hwy we get around 18, city 16/17. Not too bad.
-
no thats not bad at all! i'd be towing with it also.. damn gn is a fat ass at 4000lbs
-
I love my Duramax. We have a lot of elevation changes here in California and towing with this is a breeze compared to a gas motor. I haven't had a single problem with this truck.
-
yeah you have the LBZ witch is leaps and bounds over the LLY and you also have the 6speed trans. i think yours is pretty good on fuel too. what do you tow with it?
-

Just an 06' G6...nothing special however I'm considering upgrading to an Evo or 4wd truck of some sort.
-
I don't tow anything with it anymore. I used to tow my race car... when I did such things. :D

evo's are fun.. real fun but they have glass trans. cant launch them and very tempermental. if your going to do anything AWD do audi.. i'd sugest a b6 A4.. they respond amazing to mods. the 1.8t is great.. the 2.0t is amazing. my buddy put down 256whp in his gti with just a flash, intake and down pipe. from your plate it looks like your in ny? if you decide to go that route let me know. i'm good friends with the owner of force fed. eng.

audi's are great. comfterable quick and easy to mod. unless its a b5 s4 you want the 4cyl turbo every time. and they dont sound bad witch exhaust. my vw has wicked tuning and while raspy sounds NOTHING like a honda. if i could do it again i'd do EIP exhaust.

ed post the pics up of the pimp car. (park ave) love that thing!
-
Have you ever driven either car in snow? That's my main concern I drove my T on ice once and it wasn't too bad probably because of the stall but I didn't get past 35. My G6 is alright in snow but sometimes it just spins if I'm taking off on a hill and it will slide around corners at times too but it stops pretty good on the slick stuff.
-

09 jetta wagon TDI

i've been in audi's, vw (4motion), evo's and wrx's in the snow. never my gn but plenty of rwd cars/trucks and a few fwd, and 4x4 trucks. natrually the 4x4 is the best.. as far as the awd goes..
its a toss up to what awd is better quattro or subarus. and i do mean dead even. a bunch of my friends and i went messing around in a snow storm. it seemed the audi and my friends sti were getting around (even when taking it easy) 10x better then the evo. another one you might want to consider is the vw R32. alot of fun. the vr6 sounds sick too.

I have a 1998 Nissan Maxima also firebird if he has an auto in a 09 tdi it is a DSG trans overall we haven't had many issues with it only the control units which are like a valvebody trans controler all in on and not hard to do by the way a DSG is a manual trans internaly has shift forks and syncros
-
07 F150 Supercrew 4x4... and I love it. Don't love the fuel economy so much, but meh, it's a give and a take.

i know 09 tdi's and any vw auto for that is dsg. they're having major major major problems with them. if you go on vw vortex theres been major complaints on youtube videos where the clutches will engage and disengage. drove one.. it was weird at first but did love it.. but because of the horror stories i'd be very hesitant.

We must be lucky here at the dealer i work at then everyone we had an issue with the Mechatronics unit has fixed it
-
its a shame too. it seems to be a great trans for a tdi.

Someone needs to come up with a paddle shifter for the TRs. :D

I keep telling myself that I'd like a Buick Roadmaster with an LT1 to replace my Isuzu Rodeo as a daily driver:
-
I used to have a Rodeo, 1994, sold it with 185k miles.
-
We have a '98 with 175K on it now. Just replaced a fuel pump and it still runs like a champ. Afraid to part with it because it's been so dependable.
-

dont rodeo's have major rot problems? with the money i've been dumping in the gti i'll be running that thing for a long long time. new coilovers in it, new trans, upgraded clutch and flywheel. if it keeps on breaking it'll get a 30r turbo. hey might as well have fun with it if i gotta keep it right?
-

I had some rust on mine as it was located in the Chicagoland area and the previous owner did not do the best job of protecting it from rust. I did replace the front bumper and drivers fender. The rest was not bad.
-
Starter, alternator, EGR, O2 sensor, timing belt, and fuel pump have been the major issues for our Rodeo.
I wouldn't recommend getting one as a daily now though because getting parts for it is starting to be a bit of a PITA and when Isuzu pulled back/scaled back in the US it's made it even harder to get answers. When we ordered the O2 sensor, we wound up getting five different ones all using the same part number until we finally got the right one. Each box had the same part number and UPC, but each sensor was different.
We have the 3.2L and it's presented some really odd trials...the alternator is essentially underneath the car and to replace it you need to spend a good 3 to 4 hours of labor to include taking a damn wheel off. To replace the starter you'll need to take off a header or you're going to do allot of cursing and screaming.

Rob - what kind of gas mileage does your VW get?
I need something better than the 13-15 my truck gets :x
-
jeremy i'm getting 23-25 around town. thats full stop and go. 25 no ac 23 with ac. mine only has exhaust. (wicked tuning) full turbo back 3" dp- 3" muffler and piping. on the highway i get 29-33 now mind you with my milage my SES light is on because of the exhaust, i need to get it flashed asap. as much as the car pisses me off i love it. its extremly easy to mod and a blast to drive. i just put coil overs on it and the car will easly out handle a wrx keep up with a sti cornering. once (if ) i do the rear sway it'll beat a sti/evo hell even keep up with a vette.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqIapOl4DXg thats a video of my exhaust from inside a tunnel.
if you want used for a good price and easy to work on i sugest a MK4 (98?-05) the vr6 sounds great and real reliable but i do like the easy modding of the 1.8t. BUT if you go 1.8t i sugest getting a 20th or a 337. they have the 6speed trans thats alot stronger. my brother with the stock 6 speed put 650whp down. didnt last long but it lasted. the06 and newer has tsi and fsi motors. they're direct injected and having problems with the fuel pumps.
for the hell of it this is a video of my brothers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0JH7JFBzJE

jeremy you can always get tdi. my mom's gets 38 city and 55.5 highway @75
-
Geez...I wish I got 23-25 on the highway in my GN.
After my Dad passed away in '06, and drove the car home from Vegas to LA mostly stick, with only a hollow cat and a Kenne Bell "ram air", I got 31 MPG.
After putting in a real fuelp pump and doing the basic upgrades, I now get 19 or so in 99% highway driving.
Sucks.
-
I get about 23 MPG (US) on stock engine and chip.
That's at 70+Mph, (included Ky and Tenn hills.)
-
i've gotten 25+ in my gn basic mods
-
I suspect just slowing down to ~60 (and smooth driving) would make a significant difference.
-
i was doing anywhere from 70-75
-
I thought about a tdi - but they demand a premium, or have almost 300k on them.
I really don't need anything - work is 6 miles away, and I can get a months worth of driving on a tank in the truck. Once I get the bird back together - I'll drive that, hopefully it still gets decent mileage.
-
How much do you really save on gas though? Enough to justify a new car and/or car payment?
-
Reminds me, I gots to put the rub strip back on the new door too....

i was doing $80+ a week in the dmax to $50 tops a week in the gti. so.. $200 a month if not more.
-
What is a car payment, pay cash and you do not have to justify it.
But for arguments sake, I am spending $150 a week in gas driving the GN. Luckily I am carpooling and only drive every other week.
If I can get 25+ MPG out of the GN, I would save about $40 a week.
-
to some people the extra $40 a week is a make a break situation. for me it is anyway..

them B6 audi's are fun!
-
jim.. one word.. unitronic
-
I had an '02 Audi Quattro with a 1.8. Very fun to drive...but I sure as hell wouldn't want to own one that wasn't under warranty. My instrument cluster went out and caused holy hell in that car...a month later, it was finally fixed. If it hadn't been under warranty they told me it would have cost around $3.5K to fix. I sold it before the warranty went out.
-
when it comes to vw/audi, you just got to know the right people. jim does.. me my brother can get alot of things for it. jim if you need anything let me know.
