I was in the insurance business for years and I've also received this letter numerous times. Often a single error in your VIN can be responsible but more often than not it's simply the stupidity of the people who work in local government. I'd act on it quickly though, because they'll yank your registration and then, even though suspension was never justified in the first place, charge you a fee to reinstate it. I can't wait 'til the same calibre of people are running our healthcare system!

The only record they have is the policy number you put on the form whey you renew plates( I think)
Did you change polices?

Yes new policy at a better rate.
Saved me almost 600 bux for the same coverage. I would have been silly not to change.
Still does not explain why I got it.
No phone numbers to call or anything, I found a number for SeviceOntario and they told me to call and tell my Agent, why is it my job to do their work?
I went through 6 levels of departments to finally get a number for the MTO who sent me the letter.
Basically they are calling you a LIAR when you go to renew your tag/plate, even though you have you proof of Insurance in hand if they do not have it in their system and you will not get a renewal.
Not happy with that scenerio at all.
Why not send it to IBC since it is their issue?
Still confused.

I don't know how it's run up there, but usually all insurance companies report cancellations to the DMV. If he changed policies it is the responsibilty of the new company to notify the DMV...but they often get forgetful about this. Or, as I said above, if there are any incorrect digits or spellings it can create this problem too.

I did check the VIN, policy number on my insurance card and compared them, they are correct with what I have and also correct on the previous card.
No spelling error on my info either from this one or the previous one.
Rumor has it that tens of thousands of these things sent out from one location at one time. Now I am saying this as the description of the envelope and the Logo on it.
So something is not right.

Call your insurance company first and have them retransmit the data to the DMV.

AJ,
I am wondering if I will now get one of those forms for all of my vehicles? I sometimes by accident put down the wrong company and policy number when I renew my plates for my vehicles :evil; . I guess I will have to wait and see.

I did do that, we shall see what happens when I attempt to renew the tag.
Actually the process is messed up. My Agent tells my Insurance company my Insurance company tells IBC, IBC tells MTO, MTO tells Service Ontario WOW ! ! ! So many places for it to get messed up.

I got pulled over once, seems my license was suspended due to lack of insurance. Turned out Progressive had changed the class of my insurance, sent the cancellation letter, but somehow the new policy letter that should have immediately followed, didn't get there. The cop took my license, told me he was doing me a favor by not taking me to jail. I got my proof from Progressive, went to the DMV, showed them that, got a new license, and it was done. This was in the US though.

$25,000.00 fine here Mark for no Insurance, so anyone without it is nutz.
OH sure you can go to court and fight it, still costs for the Lawyer.
That is one of the reasons I am upset.
