Title: Power steering/hydroboost pressure line question.
Post by: Jordan_J on December 17 2010, 12:36:07 AM
So I am in the middle of doing a hydroboost conversion to my T. I put the pressure lines on a little bit ago but it doesn't seem like the one on the gearbox went on hardly at all.

As you can see in this picture the driver side line is seated almost entirely into the booster. The passenger side has a couple threads left but it's tight as can be.

However in this picture, the line going to the gear box has around 3.5 threads left yet it's tight. I tried taking it out and putting in back in around three times and the same result each time. I don't want to have it leak the minute I throw everything back together.

Do you all think it's fine or should I try until it goes in further?

It almost looks cross threaded, but it may be the camera angle.  Damn, it's nice to have a decent picture to look at!

Are you sure it went in correctly?  Are they both the same size fittings?

Do the threads in both the female side and the screw in side look clean?

Count the treads on each nut, and count the threads on each port into the hydroboost - compare = WIN!
Make sure to look very carefully at all threads.

I have no experience with Hydroboost.

It's been a while, but I do believe that is normal. I sold both my 84's, or I'd go look. I bought new hoses while restoring the 84 Riviera, and seem to recall the same thing happening

Edit: But get confirmation elsewhere, because it's been too long ago for me to be SURE

Thanks for in input fella's. I asked someone else I know with hydroboost and he said his are the same way. I screwed all of them in a couple threads by hand so unless I have he-man strength I don't think they're cross threaded. The one on the gearbox I even took out and retried it a couple of times to the same effect.

Also believe it or not Steve but those pictures were taken with my phone. I am a fan of great pictures too and the lighting is always what helps the most I think.

What phone do you have?

It's the iPhone 4. I bought it since my old iPhone touch screen started messing up which I had already replaced myself with a friends old iPhone as parts. So instead of going through the hassle of repairing it a 2nd time I just bought this one and the camera on it is nice. It's only 5 mega pixel but it has a flash that is nice. I used my droplight in the one picture to help along with the flash and a flashlight and flash down by the gearbox.

Looks OK to me.  The real test will be when you fill it with fluid and start it up!

And no teflon tape, IIRC.

that is normal. if it leaks, loosen it up, install new oring and try again. make sure all pieces of the old oring are out and no dirt in there.
and yes my iphone takes killer pics if there's plenty of light.

Sounds good. I actually had to reroute the hose since I couldn't get the compressor on and it looks like it went in maybe another thread more. Could just be the new angle though. My ps pump return hose has a big kink near the top like the second it comes off the reservoir so now I have to find a way to un kink it and keep it from happening again.

I had the iPhone 3G before this phone and it's camera sucked all around unless I was snapping a pic real close outside or inside with good light. Now I can take videos, have a flash, can multitask, change my wallpaper. It's like a fat kid inheriting a Twinky Factory.

i have the 3gs.  the pics i took of gngal that are in the guickgals calander where taken with it.  she'd have preferred to take some new pics with a nicer camera for the calender, but she only had a couple days to send in whatever she had

I have an Android-based Samsung with a 5MP cam - I dig it.
