Think of mine.
I need a new cam again.
Took it to Lou today to get it ready to sell and nope I need to spend another 1400 JUST to sell the fucking thing.
I cant wait to get a brand new Toyota Camry that actually works everyday
-
$1700 to replace a cam is outrageous...r eplace it yourself
-
Yeah, WTF? Lou already did the cam once. Stock cam, new lifters, I think I was there when you bought it all from Neal. I think you got them #100 valve springs though, or were they stock? Bottom line is Lou put it in, and now it's fucked. Call him up man. It was him that broke the cam in right or wrong, you don't just drop it in and drive away.
-
well lou said the springs were testing at 120 lbs! I was like huh Neal gave them to me... So 120 for a stock cam is way way too much. I just want this thing out of my life.
I canst replace the cam. I dont want to ever work on that car again. I dont have months to waste on it.
Looking into those new Toyota Camry's.. it will last forever and has a cool warranty.
"Im serious"
-
How much you sellin' for? Got a buyer lined up?
-
I have no idea and no buyer lined up... In a perfect world I would like to get a cough 1o but im sure I can hopefully maybe get 8.... Ill call some of the people who have left notes on my car in the past. Sad thing is I test drove the Altimas and Camry's and both v6's were faster than my GN has ever been in 3 years.

The problem isn't your valve springs. More than likely its your oil.
Newer motor oils lack the anti friction additives due to new formulations.
Crane cams sells an additive (like GMs EOS which has been discontinued)
That you'll have to use with every oil change. I think $1700 is awfully high
price to replace a cam too. I'll look it up, if I have time.
-
I looked up the labor today. 9.3 hours to replace the cam.
We get $70/hr where I work, so the labor alone would be $651.
If he were converting you over to a roller setup, that may be a fair price.
Especially if that includes maching the valve guides for clearance, it
would be a great price.
Just in case, I think I found you a new cah !

Read down toward the bottom of the page. This is the ticket for a flat tappet cam.
99003-1
Crane Cams Super Lube Break-In Concentrate (8 oz. bottle) is an anti-wear additive formulated with a high concentration of special zinc dithiophosphat e to provide sustained protection against cam lobe and lifter scuffing and wear. This oil supplement is to be added to the engine oil for the initial break-in period after the installation of a new camshaft and lifters.
