Driving to the airport a little over a week ago and it took a crap....now it's park at home. Well I guess I can replace the valve springs and passenger moyor mount while it's down
-
Sorry to here about troubles Jim.
I do not have a single Powermaster in the fleet and have had zero brake issues. I may have a vacuum setup for sale in a week. Let me know if you are interested.
-
Jim, what are your symptoms with the Powermonster?
-
Vacuum conversion!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim, what are your symptoms with the Powermonster?
It first started as a soft pedal then moved on to the motor clcying every 4-8sec and the power side of the Mastercylinder would leak down with in 20 minutes of the key being off. So it started as a O ring leak. I think the motor just gets hot and shuts down. It hasn't blown a fuse yet, but the motor stops working for a period of time then will work again for about 2 minutes...gett ing shorter everytime I start the cah.
I like the powermoster system...I like the hydroboost best, but converting is $$$$$
I'm not a fan of vacuum brakes, I know it's the cheapest route. But the PM work for over 20 years before giving out...and I didn't really know how to work on it when I first got it...so I'm sure I helped it along
-
Of course it did...they all crap out. I'm not recommending the vacuum conversion, though.
-
My vac brakes work great! Of course I do have Baer discs all the way around. :supz:
-
Mine never worked right....even after repeated bleeds, an new cylinder, yadda, yadda. I'm planning to get a transbrake because my vacuum brake set up can't hold but 4 or 5 lbs of boost.
-
what rear brake linings do you have ... if you bought metalic then I can understand why you can only hold 5 psi. You need the cheap shoes, they will bite harder but they don't last too long. that is the down side to them ..along with alot more brake dust.

I like Hydroboost the best. A lot of cars had them, I believe even the diesels. You may be able to scrounge one up at the boneyard.
I may just have to go junk-in :supz:
The 83 has the hydro's, it'll hold 10 psi with slicks and still has the orginal rear brakes on it.

That'd be a dofferent fix...
