Title: Cruiser Motorcycle-What Would You Buy?
Post by: Scoobum on August 08 2017, 09:28:33 AM
I currently have my 2014 CRF 250 L for commuting around town...and my 2006 50th Anniversary Special Edition R1. I'm getting older and it's time to say goodbye to the R1. Currently looking at the Honda 1300 VTX C to replace the R1...and this will likely be my last bike. What would you guys get as a last cruiser bike?

V-max. My dad has one, the last of the 1st gen. I hear the second gen are even better. He's been low 11's on his, but hasn't had it out since pipes and jet kit. It sounds amazing.

Some good suggestions!  I'd look at a Vmax, Indian like Steve listed, Triumph Rocket, and the VTX1800.  The VTX1300 is kind of slow, my buddy had one and my little RZ350 would destroy it and bad!

I'm leaning towards the VTX 1300 C. If I'm feeling stupid, I can throw a leg over the R1.

You said you were going to get rid of the R1,  you should take the 1300 and 1800 for a ride and see what you like.

I know a lot of people don't share this opinion but I think v-twins are good for tractors. I really dislike how they sound, and they shake like a vibrator, that's why the girls like them!

Insurance premiums for the young lads here in Ontario are through the roof...and a high percentage of them are riding with no insurance. Have a friend that drives tow truck...and most of the bike accidents involving sport bikes...the owner has no insurance. Very few old farts like me will throw a leg over a 1 litre sport bike...so trying to dump it will be tough. I'm gonna go ahead and get a cruiser bike...and put the R1 up for sale. May take a year or two to sell.

What does it cost to insure an R1 is you are in your teens or early 20's?  Up here it is around $3-3.5K.

I had young lads telling me they were quoted 600-800 a month.
