converter won't lu
« on: January 15 2011, 06:26:55 PM »
Hello,

I have a newly installed pro-torque 9.5 lu converter.

I noticed my gas mileage was horrible 8-10 mpg then I noticed my converter was locking up unless I let off the gas a hair.  But now I think it is  really not going into lu at all. I think the drop in rpms was really just from letting off pedal.

I put a switch to ground pin A and F and put trans in 2nd and drove the car then flipped the switch and nothing. I tested the connection and f is becoming grounded when I flip the switch.

I also unplugged the harness from trans. turned the key to the on position and couldn't get voltage on any of the wires.

I also pushed the brake pedal in and manually pushed in the two buttons on the brake pedal and still nothing.

I notice that on my pl that when I flip the switch I have connecting a and f that the check doesn't come on in the pl in the tcc box. Should it?

What do you guys think might be going on?

Thanks

Appy a 12v jumper to the "A" terminal on the trans. It should lockup when you go into 2nd gear. If it does your trouble is most likely in the command (ECM) or wiring issues. If it don't lock up it could be wiring in the trans, bad seloniod and last a defective converter.

My friend's car was having a problem with locking up, we wound up fixing it when I repaired the wiring to the VSS.

Goodmorning, This is what I found.
I pulled the brake switch down and checked voltage. I have 12 volts pin b and voltage on pin a and c when I push in the button.

I unplugged to harness going to the trans and I don't have voltage at all. Not with the button in or out with terminal f on adl grounded or not.

What NOw.

ok this doesn't make since/

when I checked voltage on pin a at trans. and I didn't have voltage it made me think open circuit had to be my problem so I ran a switched 12v to pin a plugged it back into tran. drove car and turn on switch and still no lock-up.  could I be having two separate issues.

yes I did what ulycyc recomended but the thing that scared me is I had a switch tying terminal a to f on the adl to ground f and when I flipped the switch it started smoking so i immediately disconnected it.  I guess I shouldn't have grounded f and jumpered pin a at the trans.

I hope I didn't damage the ecm

ok i'm half way there. The reason conv. would lu even when a grounded a and f was the top switch was out of adjustment I found this out by taping in closed and I noticed I had 12v on pin a. The problem I have now is that apparently the ecm is not commanding lu. It will only lu if I flip the switch ground a to f. What do ya'll think.

Update.

The ecm is fried it really smells burnt and here are some pictures

Here's the problem I installed a known good ecm and I have the same result.  I have to flip the switch grounding f for the converter to lock.  I'm thinking I have a burnt wire also.  What do ya'll recommend.
