Title: Valve cover gasket?
Post by: Forzfed on November 07 2018, 05:20:21 PM
So the machine shop that did my 4.1 put cork valve cover gaskets on and as usual oil pours out of it! :013:
Does anyone have the part number for the rubber ones with the metal inserts?

If you have rough cast stock heads, tighten those cork gaskets down again.

Then do it one more time.    Once they take a set and mold to the heads, they'll be leak free (and reusable) for over a decade of daily driving.

It typically takes three tightinings to make them happy.

I did tighten them once already.  But I really hate cork!  As soon as it gets cold out they shrink.  I remembering taking them out in pieces.

Hit them a 3rd time and they'll be leak free  (unless you're running some weird ass metric cork :) )

I put a set of fel-pro corks on my GN when I bought it in '98 and never took them off until a high pressure/high temp rotary dishwasher compromised them.   If I'd hand cleaned them, those '98 models would still be on my car.

I have a cork gasket on my tranny pan. Been on and off probably a dozen times. No leaks. Cork for the win!

That's the only thing I use on my oil pans.

I like my X-over pipes without baked on crap.
