And to be honest since I’ve “retired” I really haven’t paid much attention to technology.

What are you thinking of buying or replacing?

Do you have a microcenter near you Steve? Anything against Intel? IMO dollar for dollar you'll get a faster cpu with intel.

I have an SSD in my current machine...a 128 gb Samsung and I agree. I did not notice this one did not have an SSD.

In the old days, AMD were slower but a lot cheaper. They still made good gaming machines. Today, the Ryzen family is faster than Intel and are only slightly cheaper. I think they are better for value in all contexts now.

I dropped off a whole skid(about 2300# worth) of dell desktop units to a place in ft worth. The guy sez he and his guys "refurbish" them. They had several "stations" where they appeared to do the "refurbishing".

Post by: Scoobum on January 21 2018, 05:20:10 AM: When PL came out I wanted a separate laptop for the GN to run just PL. Norbs had me grab a refurbished IBM Thinkpad from a place in Markham. I assume these had been leased...refur bished...and then resold. Works mint to this day.

The other day a client called and wanted him to come look at his new Dell computer that was slower than his old one. He went out and discovered a refurbed machine that was older than the one it replaced. Nothing wrong with it..just an old model. He said the the client had a hard time understanding that he had bought a machine that was not as good as the one he replaced.
