How often do you drop your trans fluid?
« on: January 27 2014, 07:01:11 PM »
For those of you who beat on your cars at the track (and street for that matter). How often do you replace your trans fluid? Do you have a magic number of 1/4 mile passes when you drop the fluid? With a 200r4.

When it explodes. Last grenade was 2.5 years ago...pin is pulled.

I guess when it explodes it drops the fluid by itself. Lol. I was going to do filter and add a drain plug to the pan.

Get a remote filter kit for it. When you change the oil spin the tranny filter off and add a quart. It will filter better than the stock one and allows you to keep the fluid fresher without making a bunch of mess if you don't hit the drain pan.
And remember, when dealing with children, silence may be golden but duct tape is silver.

Normally, it should be changed about every 20,000-24,000 miles or two years.  If you go to the track, I would suggest at least once a year.  If you have a high stall converter and are building a lot of boost at the line, I would suggest about every two trips if you are making a bunch of runs

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

In all seriousness... if you're gonna be beating on your junk at the track...then you should have a transmission temp gauge. You wouldn't believe how fast the trans temp rises when you put your car up against the footbrake...an d heat is the number one killer for a transmission. A separate trans cooler is never a bad idea.

When I ordered my converter from PTC The guy I spoke to (cant remember name) recommended the big 29000 gvw B&M trans supercooler so thats what I got. A temp gauge would be a good investment for sure.
