Fabrication / Homemade big neck IC
« on: December 29 2013, 06:16:49 PM »
I bought this extra stock IC and installed a 3" neck cut off of an old intercooler laying around work. Hopefully I will get time to install it over the next week or two. Got an adapter hose from ebay to connect. Also have PL on the way to get this car dialed in for some runs in the 11s!

Kills And Thrills / Test N Tune 10-18
« on: October 19 2013, 01:00:44 PM »
Made 3 passes Friday night. Heres best two. 110 octane. 12.51 @ 106 was 24lb boost timing 25/22 785 O2 no knock. 12.76 @ 106.3 was 25lb boost timing 26/22 773 O2 no knock, spun tires out the hole. Added about 10% wot fuel to the 100 oct chip. Broke my left motor mount so was done for the night. Getting better, ran 12.80s @ 103mph last time out on 100 octane. Trying to stay safe and take small steps. Also met 2 cool guys with turbo Buicks, one guy had a TTA and a GN, hes been in the turbo Buick scene since 89.

General Buick Tech / FYI fuel gauge WAY off
« on: October 08 2013, 09:15:28 PM »
Went to drain my fuel tank out to get ready to run 110 octane. My gauge (digital dash) said 4 gallons. I hooked up a hose to rail and started pumping, got about 1.5 gallons out and no more gas. Since I had car I have been running down to 3 or 4 gal on gauge before filling up. I guess that's a thing of the past now!

IHADAV8 Playground / Twin Turbo T
« on: September 28 2013, 07:50:14 PM »
Saw this Turbo Buick at a car show here in Henderson NV. I went by the car twice but never saw the owner to meet him. Actually saw 4 turbo buicks and none of owners were with cars. I noticed the engine has a distributor and an intake I have never seen. It had a caged interior and some ET street radials. Also A/C removed.

General Buick Tech / mixing e85 and 100 octane
« on: September 16 2013, 08:14:49 PM »
Anybody tried mixing e85 in with 100 octane? I was searching on some sites but seemed to turn up old posts. Would it be beneficial for slightly higher octane and lowering cost? Maybe be able to run more boost?

General Buick Tech / Test N Tune friday night
« on: September 14 2013, 01:53:00 PM »
Got my car hooking well this time out. Solid rear lower control arms and Hellwig bar on stiffest setting, new Hoosier DOT drag radials. Fresh valve springs last week. I have Scanmaster but no Powerlogger (I now see the need for this doing the fine tuning). Car has TT 5.7 race chip on 100 octane. Always showed rich on street so I pulled 2.3% fuel overall from default setting before I hit track.
first pass at 22lb boost, launch with maybe 1lb boost (first pass jitters) 60'=2.03 1/8mph 83.5  1/4= 13.15 @ 102.7  bit lean O2 739 and 1.2kr
2nd pass set fuel from 125 to127 overall, launch 4lb boost 60'=1.83 1/8mph 84.2 1/4= 12.80 @ 103.1 (forgot to get readings was jacked about hitting 12s and listening to guy in brand new CTS-V that I spanked
3rd pass 24lb boost, 60'=1.87 1/8mph 84.6 1/4= 12.82 @ 103.8  real lean O2 687 and 3kr. (I have an air psi reg for boost control so hard to set)
4th pass 24lb boost, added fuel to 132 overall. 60'=1.86 1/8mph 84.2  1/4= 12.85 @ 103.4  O2 at 760 and 1.5kr
So car seems to run same on 22lb verses 24lb boost. My 60' could be better but I cant build more than 4-5lb boost on brakes before rpms hit 3k and tires turn. Should I pull 1st gear only fuel to build more boost on line? My MPH seems low, I just did comp 980 springs, car pulls to 5k rpm good now, used to fall on its face about 4600. Would the Vegas elevation 2200ft affect power that much? Temps were 85 and 20% humidity. Any advice from the gurus appreciated on dialing in. Powerlogger has to wait a while, funds low. I am happy with cars improvement so far.

General Buick Tech / Hoosier DOT drag radials
« on: August 31 2013, 03:23:21 PM »
Heres a pic of my new 275/60/15 Hoosier DOT drag radials mounted on 15x8s. Trying to go to track in 2 weeks since I got rained out Friday. went out this morning to play a little, had air psi at 26 and they hooked tons better than my Nittos at 20. They are SOFT and sticky.

General Buick Tech / Whats your rear susp/ tire setup for track?
« on: June 29 2013, 08:58:27 PM »
I was trying to get an idea of what people are running for a rear suspension setup and what tires? The reason I ask is because I took my GN to track last night here in Vegas. First of all it was record heat and still about 105 degrees at 9pm start. I could not hook up car at all with horrible 2.50 60fts. The only reason I even tried to run with the excessive heat was its the last test n tune here until end of summer and I recently bought my car and did some work on it.
My rear suspension is all stock and rear bushings visually look ok. Front susp looks like it has a fairly recent rebuild. Im running 275/60/15 Nittos on stock rims. I started at 24psi in tires and gradually dropped pressure eventually ending at 17psi with traction getting worse. I did burnouts until I saw smoke. I left the line from 10lbs boost down to idle and just roasted tires, had to pedal car a few times. Also felt tires spinning about 1/2 track with car squirrely.
Looking for some setup ideas that work well with low 60ft times. My car is stock eng internals, Precision TE44, 3 inch downpipe, stainless headers, stock IC, Precision 65lb injectors and 100 octane chip from TT. running 21lbs boost. Stock 8.5 posi rear. PTC 10" 2800-3000 non lockup stall. I just installed PTC stall after having a sorry 12" non stock converter in car. Went from building no boost and leaving like a turd to instant boost and shredding tires. Ive owned many cars and have made lots of passes on the track in the past but haven't had a car making this much power coming on so hard with the turbo. I felt like a rookie out there. Runs were similar with 2.50 60ft and 13.90s at 101mph. I believe this car has 12s in it with a good 1.60 or 1.70 60ft time. Maybe just need slicks or better drag radials? Thanks for input. It was fun running down Mustangs with 2 second head starts with the back of my car skating around.

Can a downpipe vibrating against the a/c evaporator box cause false knock readings on Scanmaster?

New Member Introductions and Welcomes! / New owner from Vegas
« on: May 29 2013, 07:51:20 PM »
Hi all. Just bought my 87 GN in April and working through the bugs. Almost got the car where Im happy. I am waiting for my 60lb inj and 100 octane chip from TT and my Nittos. Just in time for it to be super hot here in LV. Our car season is kinda opposite here when the car doesnt go out very much in the summer. Looking forward to learning more about the turbo cars from this and other boards. I am a heavy truck mechanic for a living.

Mike
