Title: V8 G-Body Braces?

V8 G-Body frame braces No V6 cars ever came with these- see PIC. even if you're just browsing through, if you already have a turbo car, this is one of the cheapest mods that makes a tremendous difference in stiffening the chassis. You can pick 'em up at any U-wrench if for $5-$10

This is from a TR for sale on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4549464399&category=6141#ebayphotohosting).

Is something common that people do to their cars?  I don't recall reading about this?  Any advantages?  Is there a professionally built kit from a vendor?

Yes - and they do work. Most come off of mid 80's Pontiac Grand Prix's, some cutlasses have them as well.

There's the two that go to the center frame are (as pictured), there's another one that goes across the frame near the IC, two more that go on the inside of engine compartment (attaches from the radiator support to the side fenders), and of course the rear sest brace kit. They do stiffen up the frame quite a bit, especially on TTop cars.

Yup, I got a set for about $10. You can snag them off of about %50 of all g-bodies. I've seen them on Monte Carlos, Cutlasses and Grand Prixs. Just remember to take the nuts and bolts for the front and the self tapping nuts for the rears.

Oh, you mean these are the front brace kits...yeah, I had the Kirbans front brace kit installed, but with the longer intercooler, they had to come off.

I still have the engine bay mounted brace kits sitting around in a box somewhere.

I have a Kenne-bell rear seat brace...the solid piece, not the four bars.

I thought this was something else altogether.

I have a set that I saved from a Monte that I stripped, but I need the rear
self tapping bolts. I also have a couple sets of the Pontiac inner fender braces.
I could part with a set if someone needs them. I'm still looking for
the one that goes parallel to the front bumper.

A little late now, as I've had it installed for quite sometime now.

As far as seat braces, I've got the "X" style from
Postons. My only complaint with them was the quality of the paint job.
So I stripped and repainted them.

I had the Kirban setup...but it wouldn't work with the new intercooler.

Gordy, are you talking about the angle braces under the car? Mine dont work with the IC either. I'm saving them for when I get a frontmount.

What about the one that flyingn posted. Does that work with a stretch IC?

I had to remove the two angled braces that use self tapping bolts and I had to remove the bar that flyingn posted as well.  Both of the pieces were purchased from Kirbans.  I'm saving them for my other TR that I plan on buying when I get back to the states.

I too have been thinking about a few braces for my GN.

My Older Trans-Ams came stock with 1/4 inch steel engine compartment braces
(very heavy duty) running from the front quarters to the front above the radiator.

Then my Newer Trans-Ams came with thin , Bent Metal, braces, that I quickly replaced with the Older ones from a Boneyard.

But, I haven't been to a Boneyard in years, I get the feeling like I'm in the Movie
Deliverance every time I peruse those joints.

Any good Salvage yards in Southern New Hampshire ?

Not many with G and F bodies. Most places crush them right away for
the scrap metal. However, I have found some at Blanchards in Wilto, NH.

BTW, Welcome to the board.
