My fuel injected throttle body thingamajiggy
« on: September 08 2017, 01:53:54 PM »
Look, in 1985 was it really this hard to start your vehicle?
I let it sit five days (like always) and when I go and start it
It nearly runs the battery down to dead before it'll start.

Even when it sits for two days it's hard to start. Maybe I'm
Flooding it? I don't think so though.

Wires taped up...bolt shoved in the end of a vacuum hose...and springs big enuf to slam the door on Steve Woods outhouse door. Looks like a fukn abortion.

No no no, the tape? That's original 1985 oem wire loom from AMC. lol no shit.
The bolt in the vacuum hose just blocks a sensor that's unused because I bypassed the ecm. No emmisions.

It may be ugly but everything is right and 'clean'. It's defiantly not junk.

When I first put the carb on, the jeep started easy. I changed nothing. After a few months it slowly got harder and harder to start.

So sounds like the fuel is draining out.  After it has sat for a few days, look down the throat and see if you are getting an accelerator pump shot when you open the throttle

The two barrel motor craft carb on my Wagoneer does the same thing. But it doesn't drain the battery getting it started. It definitely drains back into the tank or evaporates. Maybe a new pump is in order for yours

If it is like an old qjet the well plugs leak and the bowl drains out. A lot of guys use marinetex epoxy to seal em up.

The fuel pump is mechanical and newish, activated by the crank.

I want to check it tomorrow but I'm going to listen to Steve and wait a few days. Plus I guess I'll be able to see how many times I need to pump it to get the gas squirt in. I pump once, turn it over about six times and repeat several times lol.

Like I was saying though, it was perfect two years ago when I put it on, four months later and I suddenly had a problem. It's getting worse cuz now if I'm driving and I 'punch it' it acts like it wants to die for a split second.

Oh, if I look down in it tomorrow should I see a puddle of gas? I'm not going to pump yet I just want to see if it's evaporating. Also, there is a screw on the front that looks like it has a leak, not wet just discolored.

Funny, I ain't scared to mess with the GN but this jeep makes me nervous.

Look into the carb and see if you can see the gas spray when you open the throttle a bit....if it's not spraying, it will take a long time to start...probab ly gummed up in the passage

If the gas is evaporating or leaking out it wont squirt anything no matter how many times you pump the throttle until you spin the engine over to get the pump to pump fuel and refill the bowl. Not like an electric that primes when you turn the key. Only pumping when the engine is turning. It is a whole new world from the past.

I went to a job interview some years back and the old guy interviewing couldn't believe I knew what a magneto was and how it worked. I'm pretty sure he would have hired me but his boss had someone else already slotted for that job. I was just one of their interviews to show they looked at others. Just a side note.
