General Buick Tech / NA 109
« on: November 11 2013, 07:13:28 PM »
Just picked up a 109 out of a 87 cutlass, stripped it down to a bare block.
Found 2 dot rods, all the pistons pushed out the top NP. bearings showed some wear as do the cylinder walls.
What else is worth saving other than the heads, rods and front cover?

General Buick Tech / my latest mod
« on: November 01 2013, 01:46:46 PM »
I have coveted this set up since the first day I heard of it, TR6 Module with 2010 LS coils cost me $50.00 at the bone yard for the coils module was $500.00. Plug and play hardest part is mounting the coils the bracket is home made but hidden once the coils are on. Gapped the plugs at .040 purrs like a kitten, lean cruise on the extender chip has lost its stumble. No more waste spark whooo hoooo.

Decided to take the car to a real track for the first time. Got up at 5am drove an hour to the Ferry landed then drove an hour and a half to the track arrived at the track at 10am.

First 2 passes were 11.43,11.44 tried a little more boost saw some knock so I let off and coasted to 12.1.
Mission Raceway is a great track.
Drove her home and gave her a pat on the back I love my street car  :D

General Buick Tech / 2 step switch/trigger
« on: July 24 2013, 03:58:54 PM »
So whats the best way to set up a 2 step?
Wire it into the brake light circuit? (have heard there could be a delay)
A heavy duty pressure switch attached to the brake pedal?
or a pressure switch similar to what is used for roll control on the shifter.

General Buick Tech / Tuning for warmer air
« on: July 17 2013, 01:43:20 PM »
Apparently my extender G chip does not use the air inlet temp sensor to adjust for changes in conditions.

my question is if the inlet temp sensor is not used what precautions should I take if race conditions are 100 plus degrees compared to my cool coastal environment say 85 to 90.
If I tune it to the edge at home how much should I back it down for the conditions in the valley, where should I make the changes timing or boost.

General Buick Tech / Timing
« on: June 30 2013, 05:06:00 PM »
tuning the car and thought I would put a timing light on it to check the base timing. Gen ll translator with the extender g chip base timing should be 15 degrees the light shows 25 does that mean when I set the timing to 20 degrees at WOT am I really at 30?

General Buick Tech / maxed 02 sensor
« on: December 09 2012, 02:18:07 PM »
I am having a strange problem. My wide band shows a lean condition and the narrow band is maxed at 1047 according to the scan tool. It stumbles and is definitely lean. BLM is pulling fuel.
I've replaced the 02 sensor with a known good one and it still has the same problem.

General Buick Tech / Aeromotive pump
« on: October 21 2012, 08:55:21 PM »
Well after hearing how much fun Steve had  :P  and the fuel pressure issues I think I'm having I figured I might try the aeromotive 340 new this year for GM applications.

I had heard some people have issues with the return line being restrictive?

General Buick Tech / CCCI fuse
« on: August 27 2012, 02:17:54 PM »
Had a little trouble yesterday, got into it a bit and noticed some knock let off and chalked it up to not priming the Alky pump. Down the road about 30min later I roll to a stop give it some gas it jumps and dies. No start, check and change the CCCI fuse fires up and drives fine under normal cruising conditions, was idling a little high in gear while rolling but settles down when it stops.

Put my foot into it today and it knocking again  :(  is my ignition module or coil packing it?

it seemed to be getting enough fuel according to the wideband.

General Buick Tech / Race day fast approaching
« on: August 09 2012, 01:05:03 PM »
My yearly trip to the track is this week end, just finished installing the line lock to save my back brakes during the burnout. MT DRs are on fresh oil and plugs and an extra gallon of alky.

I plan to launch with about 8lb of boost and see if I can improve my short time, any words of wisdom from the hard core racers?

My best short time prior was an 1.7 on Toyo Proxies I never stressed the tires but could not build or hold much boost at the line. I installed a new torque converter that's a little looser and can build about 10 psi on the street with the MT. I also replaced my hooker down pipe with a 3inch plus a roller cam 212/206 over the winter. Tranny is set up to shift at about 5600 and it pulls hard all the way oh yeah an extra alky nozzle too. :D

Best ET was 11.88 at 117mph with a 2.0 short time any guess what it will put down?
