oh shit that could be it! Lights went out about 2 months after new transmission.. .

now how do I remove the consol wihtout fucking somehting up?  Ive never taked the consol off.

Just read the first part. Don't forget to disconnect the light, and lining up the shifter indicator light thing is a pain in the ass too.

Once upon a time years ago my brace that holds the battery cable in place came loose....under acceleration it would swing up and hit the downpipe. The car would die for a brevity and sparks would fly out the passenger side wheel-well. That's not very on-topic, but but when I see an opening I go for it. Ask Phil's sister.
