Learn From My Stupidity
« on: July 06 2013, 10:47:34 AM »
While my friend was taking a calm down pill from doing a moonshot with his Hayabusa, I pulled some more low gear fuel from my GN and then took it down the strip for a PL run, Hazed the DR's the length of the grandstand and it pulled like a freight train when it hooked up. All was well till the three quarter track mark...and then it fell on its face...felt like it went into neutral. Turned the corner and it was down a couple of cylinders. SM said no KR and 756 for 02's. WTF?! Got back to the trailer. No smoke...no steam...normal oil level...felt around an couldn't feel anything around the heads to indicate the headgasket(s) had blown out. Pulled the coil/module off and separated them. One of the coil tabs had broken off...lost 2 cylinders. I know why. I installed a new coil pack about a year ago...and you have to bend the tabs down...and you can only do it once. I remember pushing on one of the wires...and the tab came back up maybe 30 degrees...and I gently bent it back down. Prolly best to push the wire on and then bend the tab down. Installed a spare coil pack and made an 1/8th mile blast...all went well. Lesson learned.
Hard work pays off, dreams come true. Bad times don't last, but BAD GUYS do!

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.
