Is there a way to adjust the shifter indicator light so only the neutral or overdrive indicator light displays with only ONE indicator light being lit?
Thanks

General Buick Tech / Valve Springs replacement
« on: November 06 2021, 01:43:03 PM »
Hi All,
I though I was finally able to put my 87 GN on the road after doing a lot of work for so many months, and the only thing that is in my mind and Steve mention to do is to replace the intake manifold gasket. I already did a smoke test during the time of replacing the Throttle body area gaskets, exhaust area and found no leaks.
I did wanted to clean and relocate the ground wires behind the pass. head, and I tried to remove the ground bolt in many different location, but still no good. So I decided to remove the manifold, and valve spring cover to reach the ground wires for easy access.
While the valve cover is remove I'm also going to replace the valve springs, and now I question is which valve springs.
I was reading on the other forum and one Buick member claimed the following:

The 980 is too soft, too soft even for a stock cam. The 981 will be a big improvement. 86lb@1.75 with a 373Lb rate.

The SpeedWay Z28 spring 180671515 is also a good choice. Just Slightly more than the 981, only 5lbs or so. 91Lb@1.75" with 379lb rate.

I already ordered the following:
Manifold valley pan gasket -  FEL-PRO MS96033
Premium Valve Stem Seals - FEL-PRO SS72623

Being this will be my first time doing a valve spring replacement, does any member do this type of work doing pre measured for height and compression?

I have an no smoke unopen engine with 92,000 miles, with the following:
87 GN T-Top, ScanMaster, Racetronix hot-wire kit with fuel pump, Commander chips with 60# injectors, adj. fuel pump, triple pod gauges w/ Auto Meter A/F gauge, oil pressure gauge, vac/boost gauge, Kenne Belle rear seat brace, upgraded transmission w/ Art Carr pan cover, Brute Force Universal Joint, RJC stock plenum plate and 3" GM MAF.
Thanks

General Buick Tech / Turbo Exhaust Elbow Lever Arm Bushing
« on: September 12 2021, 09:14:57 PM »
Is there anyway of replacing turbo exhaust elbow lever arm bushing (IF ANY)?
The reason why I'm asking during the time of finding any exhaust leaks by using a smoke machine, I have found a little smoke coming out of the elbow lever arm.
I feel this little leak might be causing my AutoMeter A/F at idle to read very lean, yet when I WOT the A/F reads around 10.6.
I'm trying to tune since my total repairs of headers, resurfaced throttle body, and repaired some vacuum leaks. After all the work was done I smoke again on exhaust system, and vacuum, and found NO LEAKS.
Have anyone one else has the same issue with the stock turbo exhaust elbow lever arm exhaust leaks, and if so what did you do to result the issue?
Thanks

General Buick Tech / Auto Meter A/F adjustments
« on: September 09 2021, 07:01:02 PM »
Hi Steve
Yes I'm back again
I finally finished with the majority home projects, and also the needed GN maintenance stuffs we all did at sometimes:
Welded both headers, front and rear upper lower bushings, coil springs, and upper and lower ball joints.
I also replaced the cam sensor since it was making a ticking noise, and it was idling just a bit rough, and I did had the fuel injectors professionally cleaned.
The engine runs great, but there are some questions I need to ask especially with tuning adjustment.

My question is after driving the A/F goes to 10.2, and my understanding the A/F should be around 10.6-10.8, is this statement true?
Also in case you're wandering about my last statement of the A/F metering

General Buick Tech / O2 Oxygen sensor
« on: May 28 2021, 06:58:10 PM »
Hi All, It seems each member claimed one oxygen sensor is better than the ACDelco
Highway stars claimed: AFS-21 ACDelco one wire (non-heated, original equipment) Oxygen Sensor for 1984-1987 Vin 7 Buick Grand National, Turbo Regal, 1987 GNX, and 1989 Turbo Trans Am, supersedes both ACDelco AFS-20 and AFS-22 oxygen sensors.
Yet others claimed Denso is better
Which one is supersedes all?

Hi Steve,
You and I have been through some converse time in order to solve my high BLM, and during that time I have welded both headers, installed them without gasket just used high temp RTV. Replaced both upper and lower ball joints, replaced front and rear bushings, and all coil springs.

I will change the regulator fuel adjustment as per my Commander chip 45
Even though the fuel press maintain it's pressure for over an hour I felt the stumble may come from a dirty fuel injector.
I removed all fuel injectors and found the regulator O-ring not in good shape as you can see in photo.
I also clean up the manifolds injectors holes very dirty as well as you can also see in photo.
In the photo that shows only 2 O-rings, the one on the right is from the fuel regulator and the one on the left is from the other end of the fuel rail.
The other shows the fuel injectors I'm using Siemens DEKA IV ( DEKA 4 ) Mototron 60lb/hour High Impedance Injectors
The other photos shows how dirty the fuel injectors holes are
I already ordered the injectors O-rings, clip and also the regulator O-ring.
I will put all together, and make final fuel adjustment to see and hear engine response.
I will post again once all is final
