IHADAV8 Playground / any appliance repair people here?
« on: July 07 2020, 08:20:40 PM »
Normally all I have to do if find the tag, google the number, and I get more hits for parts than pr0n on the internet.

But since this is m own personal shit, of course it's 'impossible'.  I can't find anything close to r s647g 003bg.

I just want some new knobs and a bezel!  lol

..and it didn't bother me one bit.

Since it got cold as fuck today in GA, I think I'll lay on my heated bed, watch Letterkenny and see how much money I can cost him.

AKA save people from being scammed.

The hard part is picking out which google search to post.  There's soooooooo many!

Probable cost me some money in the short run, but I don't care.  I do my stuff for fun.

General Auto Tech / Any ford big block guys here?
« on: November 08 2019, 02:50:32 PM »
I bought a bunch of 460's a few months ago and I'm sorting all the crap that's worthless into the scrap metal pile...

Before I toss these intakes, does anybody have any idea if there's some I need to keep out of the crucible?   I think I got a set of pretty rare heads with adjustable an adjustable valve train so there's a chance I have some sort of 'desirable' intake in the pile.

So a week or two ago I pulled the GN out of the garage to wash it YET AGAIN in the hopes of clay barring it and waxing it.  (just to put it back, get contaminants on it, and cycle repeats itself)

I decided to attempt to tune this POS again so I got back to basics.  I stared with a Commander chip.  When the very small amount of knock appears on the powerlogger, it's LOUD LOUD LOUD in real life.   I can't put in to words how bad it sounds. It's literally worse than any engine I've ever heard by far. (If I didn't have earlbrown pistons and cometics, It'd be on a stand).

Next I put in a 5.6 TT chip and drove to the beers store and back.  This time I can have lots of knock retard and it's inaudible.  Just runs like shit.

After that I put in a 6.1 TT, turned off WB correction and drove home.  While almost home, irritated enough, I thought I'd give the pistons and gaskets another chance to prove themselves.  Laid into it and just listened to it run like shit.  It was so soggy, it felt like I was dumping raw fuel to the extent that it felt like it was running on 4 or 5 for a second or two.   Then the knock sets in.

For some reason, everytime I crack the throttle fueling drops to the floor.  I though my Delco NB might have been off since it tends to not agree with the PLX WB....    Installed a Denso and had no change.  I have ceramic coated headers so normally my NB is pretty damn active.    A loose hypothesis right now is that raw fuel is putting out the NB and there's so much fuel the burn is actually lean (used to see that sometimes in the ATV bidness).

One think I've learned is to not always trust your tools explicitly. My boost is backed down as far as it'll go, so theoretically I should be pig rich since the chips are burned for higher boost levels.

What's really bad is my car was stolen before the PL was a thing so I have zero experience on this car with correct running logs.  So no baseline to work from.

...oh, and what's really screwy...   On the last run, when I got back home I noticed I though a cam sensor code.  But the car would fire right up over and over.  I also tested an ECM for a friend last week, so I'm pretty sure my ECM is still working fine.

IHADAV8 Playground / Who's got the best cash back credit card?
« on: August 23 2019, 06:42:28 PM »
Right now my main card has 2% cash back on everything. And my Suntrust bank CC has 5%, with a 25% kicker, on gas and groceries (turns out beer isn't ''groceries''...   damnit!).. so 6.25% in total.

Pretty sure I can't beat my bank card, but there's got to be something out there better than 2% for normal purchases.

American Express has one that looks good on food but my local grocery store doesn't take AmEx.  Which sucks because I think that one would cover beer.

General Auto Tech / Anybody ever ran reverse ackerman on the street?
« on: August 09 2019, 05:44:34 AM »
I was at TTA308s house yesterday playing with my NECKCAR.....    I have no idea how I just noticed, but I was trying to figure out how to make a PS pump work, and I noticed the spindle arms are pointing the wrong angle.

It's a front steer setup and the arms are pointing to the inside.

Parking this thing is going to be a bitch with 3 turns lock-to-lock, no power steering, 12" slicks, and bad steering geometry.

Bad part is I don't think I have the room to fix it.

IHADAV8 Playground / I may have lost my mind a little....

So I got bored a few nights ago and thought It'd be a good idea to buy me a NECKCAR.
Now I'm torn on the paint job.    Lightning McQueen or Ricky Bobby WonderBread?

Or something goofy like Cheeze Wiz. :)

I can't be having ''Jasper Engines'' on my shit!!!!

General Auto Tech / Converting hyd tappets to solid...
« on: July 26 2018, 09:25:22 PM »
Any of you old guys got any first hand or second hand knowledge of gutting some hydraulics and machining spacers to make them solid?

I've sworn off flat tappets years ago but it looks like I'm going to end up building a couple engines with flats.   I'd like to run solid cams but there's noway in the cornbread hell I'm going to run a tappet that doesn't have a hardened foot on it.    Since I have a dust covered stash of hardened hydraulics, I was thinking about firing up the lathe and hacking some stuff up.

Google searches turned up nothing. I'm guessing because there was good solid tappets over the counter in the pre-internet days.

Plus if it works on a high RPM boat engine and a skreet race naaaaaaaws engine,  they would also fit in a Buick v6 too. (for those daredevil types that are cool with risking a turbo, engine, and oil cooler to save a few hundred bucks.)

IHADAV8 Playground / Anybody well versed in E-commerce?
« on: March 02 2018, 06:56:00 PM »
..and/or the most cost effective way to set up a merchant account?

Ebay and Paypal have me about the most pissed off at them I've ever been.   Between their lack of backbone, and fees after fees after fees...    I think it's time to throttle back on just how much money I'm making them.  That and I'm bored and want to do something new.

That and I do not want a damn 1099-K this year.  The feds and the state of GA don't seem to comprehend obamas confusing ass cash grab form and won't get off my back (from 2015).

I've found a few sites that are set up with templates for that sort of thing but the market has buttloads of them and it's hard to tell which ones are user friendly, which ones suck, and which ones are overpriced.

Right now I'm thinking about setting up something with the same stuff I have on my Ebay store but mark everything down since Ebay and paypal won't be nailing me for over 13%.  Then if someone buys something form ebay I can email them the link (or sneak it into my description) and save everybody a little bit of cheeze.  Not to mention being about to get more accurate on shipping and not have to guess.

General Buick Tech / anybody using a NB output from a WB setup?
« on: August 28 2017, 06:14:11 PM »
...and likes it more.

My GN decided to show it's ass yesterday and I think it was the O2 finally flaking out.   Still not fully sure it was the O2s fault. I was idling at over 10:1 even though my TT chip is supposed to idle at open loop. Cruising was 10s and 11s while the INT was screaming for more.

At one time my BLMs were 160 and INTs were maxxxed out while the NB reading was stuck in the .200s yet my CCs were hauling ass with big jumps per usual.    ...of course powerlogger decided the file I made driving home already existed and only showed me the last frame when I unplugged the USB.  Grrrrr

So I was thinking to myself, "Self, I have the fancy schmancy PLX box with a much newer WB O2 and it could probably do a better job at a NB output than the actual NB"   BUT   I know how adding fuel with a Translator sucks and doesn't work near as well as adding the same fuel with a chip.

Even though I just swapped in a new Denso I haven't test drove it to the beer store yet.   Now I'm starting to wonder if the powerlogger card is screwing with my ECM....
