Title: Camshafts for turbo'd engines
Post by: Steve Wood on September 07 2018, 11:10:32 AM
I stuck a link in the shout box a few weeks ago that no one took notice of.

It seems, according to  Comp, that modern turbos don't have nearly the high back pressure that the older units did so camshaft design is very similar to naturally aspirated engines.  That seems to explain why conventional camshafts seem to perform so well on today's fast cars.  For those that rail about the need to get modern with regard to camshaft selection so we don't leave all that power behind, it appears your time is past altho I know there are a couple that think they are smarter than Comp engineers :D

I read it too but wasn't thinking id be upgrading the cam and if I did the 212/212 or something like tat would go into the 4.1 I want to assemble.

I'm sure it was good info but way over what my budget will stand.

flat tappet cams are more affordable.... compared to rollers anyway.  As Brad, and others, have demonstrated over the years, they work very well. I think the hardened lifters are where the money should be spent...that and some good break in oil

Picked up some stainless tubing and fittings to run a pressure sensor on the exhaust side of the limited. I hope to get some good data and don't eat the sensor too quick

yep that will most likely be the case but I got a little fella on my shoulder whispering in my ear saying, "wonder what this little turbo will do when you go all in?"

people have pushed TE60's into the tens 25 years ago.  I would not get hung up on turbos too seriously...no t until you hit 9.5, anyway....

My 6468 pulls like mad at 10psi compared to my old CPT66!
