How hard is it to pull the governor? Thinking of trying a stocker. I'm convinced this engine would pull harder in 3rd if the revs were more in line with this cam on the 2-3 shift. The flip side is I've read several replies from Dusty to get the convertor to couple better...shift 2nd gear later...which mine does.

Govener is easy had mine in an out 1/2 a dozen times tuning my shift points.

Thanks Larry. :)

A Larry states, not hard but can be messy. I used a big black plastic catch pan that is intended to mix mortar. Ir came from the home center. Too hard to catch the fluid in a little pan.

The gov is in the banjo looking part towards the bottom of the pic(rear of trans). You might need a new gasket if yours gets torn or becomes unuseable. You might consider "pinning" the governor spring while you have it apart.

I try to catch the trans fluid then we strain it into the gallon jug and pour it back in as long as it looks/smells all right.

As Rich and Larry said the gov is an easy removal. 4 10mm bolts If you have a deep pan with a plug your laughing. I usually will pull the plug the night before to let it drain good.
If you need a nylon screw to pin the governor I have a bad of 49 left, so I can spare ya one :) They're not easy to locate in the great white north. But is anything for these cars here

Thanks for the help guys...always appreciated. It's getting late in the season...but I'm gonna try back to back runs next season with the governor that's in it now...and a stocker.

If it does not have a drain plug now is the time to put one in. Great diagram Rich!

I have a deep finned pan and a plug. :)

Yeah, it is also good for check ball locations. In my 2004r reaserch I collected up a lot of pix and such.
I've started another file for 4L60e stuff. My next big project.

Hughes makes a nice aluminum deep pan
