Made this over weekend. 3 inch exhaust pipe, sheetmetal shroud/box with 1/4 in slit hose around edges. Cut out area where stock filter housing was mounted to open to air under nose of car. Probably wont really do anything but it was a rainy day

Without a lid it probably don't do much....
But the IAT reading will tell you if the air temp is lowered.

nice looking project.

Did installing a cold air intake improve your ride's fuel efficiency and horsepower?

Mileage will drop as the temps go lower.
Without some probes it's hard to tell if pressure in that box was higher or lower than normal.
If higher it probably won't make measurable power until you hit about 250MPH.

Thanks for enlightening me. Thinking of getting one for my ride.

I did something similar for different reasons. I got tired of having the A/C hose rub on the filter and rub a hole in it. Figured if the hose could rub a hole in the filter then the reverse was possible too (Giggity).
My goal was to get the filter over toward the fender and away from the hoses. As a plus I picked up a bung for the IAT.
I didn't build in anything to box it off. I guess it helps some with IAT but sitting still in traffic it still climbs to over 120.

That's what I like about my MAF pipes. They have a second articulation point you can 'steer' them down after clearing the up pipe and IAT plug. With that additional adjustment they can miss the alternator pulley and go under the A/C lines without flexing them.
I always hated how normal pipe kits only allow for a slight height adjustment and the filter just has to land wherever it lands.

Ill bet it works better than having a lid on it :player: Been there an done it
