Title: Billet Vacuum Block.
Post by: Recklessrob on April 03 2006, 12:13:10 AM
I put on a New vac. block today. The actual
installation is self explanatory, but I have a few tips.
My old block warped and was leaking vac/boost due
to old age, excessive boost etc...
If you're about to replace your's, buy a new gasket
to go with it. The original block has a different shaped
under side and crushes the gasket differently. A new
gasket takes care of this. I bought my block from
Kirban's, but I'm sure others are similar if not identical.
This one had a small piece of aluminum shaving left hanging
around in it that had to be removed to prevent it from
entering the engine. Inspect yours thoroughly before installation.
The next thing I encountered was that the fittings are all threaded
into the block. Mine were loose. No big deal. I took
care of that by putting some Loc-Tite on the threads and tightening
them with a pair of pliers. Don't make them too tight, or they
may break, as they're only made of aluminum.
All in all I think its a nice piece, and far superior to
the plastic factory part.
Here's a pic.

How much did you pay? I got the machined billet one with brake tap from Poston for $45 and it came with the new gasket.

The block was $30, and the gasket was $2.

I thought this would be a good place to include the hose sizes for those who want to replace them when they replace the vacuum block.

qty 3 - 7/32 inch
qty 1 - 5/32 inch
qty 1 - 3/8 inch

Its great to be here and I'm really enjoying this site. Thank YOU.

I spent more time determining the correct hose sizes than I did changing the vacuum block so now others don't have to do the same.
