No power to FP - 15 amp fuse blows
« on: April 30 2016, 04:35:32 PM »
After driving 1400 trouble free miles from Florida to Canada, my car died while I was going about 65 mph.  Got it home and found that the 15 amp fuse for the fuel pump/injectors was blown.  I replaced the fuse and it blew again.

Any help as to what I should look at??

I have checked the injector wiring harness and tested the fp connections in the trunk.  Wiring harness is not worn and there is no power to the pump.

Could the ecm cause this type of thing?
Is it definitely a short somewhere?
I am thinking of running a wire directly from the positive on the battery to the fp in the tank, just to make sure it will run.

usually, it is the three wire harness that runs down the passenger side front of the engine to the oil warning light/fuel pump back up sender just above the oil pump.  The hot wire in the harness shorts out against the engine and pops the fp fuse.  Check the harness out

Welcome to the site.
I Think yours is an 84-85 by a post I saw at another site. Not sure if it has the black connector behind the alternator that can run the fuel pump. If it does a jumper from the hot post on the alternator to it can energize the fuel pump. Though that doesn't fix the fuse problem .
