Not sure what you mean. Feel free to discuss anything, don't mind me. I'm not affiliated with anyone in the Buick forum cliques.
I will say that the ones that preach brand loyalty and/or community loyalty incessantly usually have other agendas.

hmm.... learn something new everyday.
so jayc works for vertical scope, the company that bought tbs.

There was another thread on TB about knowing that TBS was for sale before the post about it's sale was made. I'm still curious why Mike didn't post saying he was offered x amount of dollars for the board to see if members would counter offer. I'm really surprised at the 6 figure offer for TB though, just a cursory search of board sales show sales to be in the low 5 figure for boards with memberships of that size and even boards with double the population don't go for too much more than that. Though, I would imagine the value of a board would be more concerned with the amount of traffic than membership since that can be fudged.
TB3, with the IHADV8 moniker S6 will be able to branch off to V12, V10, V6, V4, and V-twins :rofl; . I'm surprised more import owners haven't stumbled across this board by accident :partyman: . But there is a way to make the board more susceptible to being discovered in a search engine.
-
I certainly can't speak for Mark but it has always seemed to me that this board was never set on course to become the biggest by hook, crook or what have you. New members are always welcomed with open arms, but if we don't get X amount of new signups per week we're not scratching our heads wondering how in the fuck we're gonna make money with this thing, lol. I say 'we' and 'our' only because there is a genuine family-like vibe around here, but Mark is the sole owner. You will never, and I mean NEVER, find out that some suit has been pulling the strings behind a curtain with this site in the hopes of selling you snake oil.

You do know that Elmer's does nothing for you... or does it?

Elmer's is NOT make a good substitute for hand lotion..
Just sayin'

Neither is Nair apparently :jerkit;

cool. I don't care about being the biggest either. I just really want to be apart of a board that is fairly easy to find to new tb guys to help get the tech section going. tbs.com was way more credible than all the guys on the other site that claimed they didn't like it, would ever admit. and imo, it was cause of the tech section. it'd be nice to have a atmosphere where most anybody could feel comfortable to post, specially the vendors. if traffic picked up, I wouldn't have to go anywhere else to find out about the latest and greatest going on he the tb world as far as products, parts, events, etc

OK - here's what I have to say about this.
As far as search engine rankings and ability to find the site - I am working on that with a member to increase our exposure. Apparently, I had blocked search engines from crawling the site, that has been fixed, and we are working on getting more hits and results on the search engines.
That being said, I guess this is somewhat of a "mission statement" for IHADAV8.com.
I have never had any inclination of being the biggest, or best message board of any type. I initially threw this up as a joke, about the time T6P came online. People were bitching on other boards about there being too many Buick boards. I had a hosting package, and a free database, so I put this board up. That's the origin of the "Y.A.B.B. - Yet Another Buick Board" statement.
Some good friends (DCEPTCN, RecklessRob, gordyzx9r, 87Natty, etc) started posting and telling people about it. We had some decent traffic - but traffic is something I was never concerned with. Some came and went, some stayed on, and some newer members brought a lot to the board, Bryan C, TSM Girl, Zap, etc.
I thought about taking it down a few times, but I noticed it's sort of a refuge for a few people, and I have no intentions of ever taking it down.
It has, and always will be about community - plain and simple.
I have pretty damn near free hosting, and can scale it VERY cheap if need be, so there's no real financial burden for me.
I don't know what will happen with the huge influx of new users - some will stay, most will go, which is fine with me. I think it's interesting the huge backlash over the sale at TBS, yet I still see the same people logged in over there that were the most vocal about the sale. And some stalwart TBS members registered here, and have their online status hidden. Again, that's fine with me, but either way, the sun will rise tomorrow, and we will be here - posting the same inane shit we always have. And that's the way we like it.
Honestly, there's only a handful of members here that I would miss if they left - the rest is just fluff. Of course, I want to accommodate as many people and preferences as possible, but at the least amount of impact to the tried and true members and friends I have on here.
I can only commit to continue trying to make it a better experience, and not crashing/blowing up the software. Other than that - it's up to the members to make this board compelling. I won't be doing giveaways or other useless shit to get people here to post, I have no motivation for that - I don't need to show X amount of page impressions to impress paying vendors. I don't have a ton of tech knowledge myself - I am far from ignorant, but nothing on the level of most competent TB owners.
We don't have any aspirations of being anywhere near as popular and high traffic as all the other boards. I make no bones about this being just a simple, funky corner of the web for Buick enthusiasts (and general car folk) to hang out at, talk shit, and be with friends.
I am considering purging long term non-posting 'members', as I think that if they aren't posting or contributing in someway, they really aren't members. No other board would do that - it looks bad to have a smaller user count - but again, I don't care about numbers or stats. (It is cool to see the page impressions after TBS.com got sold. :))
I am grateful that we do have some Buick tech cornerstones as posting members - so I would expect the tech area to be beneficial, but again, nothing like TB.com, TBS.com, GNTYPE.org forums, et al.
OK, enough of my rambling.
-
Personally I try to set my privacy/security options as high as the board allows. Here, tbs, and most boards I have my profile set to invisible...fo r some reason tb doesn't allow it (or I've just been unable to discover where they hid that option).
Yeah, it's been awhile...but I thought this board/bunker was brought about as the result of the secret forums at T6P and favoritism that was being shown to some over others.

I still frequent TBS, mostly from the MAGNA affiliation. If I would choose the perfect setup, it would be for MAGNA to be over here. Mark, I can't tell you how much I enjoy this site and have considered it my main Buick site. I am new to the Buick community compared to most but have been wrenching for 42 years. I don't post a whole lot, sorta still feel like an outsider.

Thanks for the kudos.
I could put up a MAGNA forum, but I think I would need permission, and they may not want to be affiliated with the site.
Keep posting, and contributing - I appreciate your membership here.
-
Thanks Mark. I need a site that doesn't make me want to hate my Buick.
-
Well said Mark, well said. Thanks again for all you do on here. (Ps, Paul Stanley would be so proud). :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz: :supz:

I'd just like to say that the little bit I have used this site since joining has been a pleasant experience. Like someone said in a previous post, I like a site that doesn't make me want to hate my car. I have a membership on TB, but I try not to post too much. I like the smaller sites, too. I've already had some good tech help here, and I enjoy the humorous atmosphere.
-
cool.

Mark is a super rad shit and his above post pretty much says it all. I would, however, like to point out that I *am* the Lawnmower Man here and any arguing with me is not only futile but kind of a faggy thing to do.
-
...any arguing with me is not only futile but kind of a faggy thing to do.
RE: Faggy Behavior
Then it would, most assuredly, qualify as a "birds of a feather" endeavor, would it not? Afraid, prehaps, that some forensically gifted peacock might display a more colorful and impressive plumage than your own muted spread?
-
/\ /\ /\ See? He said, "peacock" for chrissakes.
-
I could have said "peecock," but I have acute legumaphobia. A really cute legumaphobia
-
It's nearly midnight- quit making me laugh, asshole.

MAGNA had a spot at turbobuicks.ne t (which was run by some MAGNA members)
I was a mod there, but it was still down last I checked.

X2.
Spoolin' here told me about this site. I'm also a TB & TBS member. Known as "theCATman" on both of those. I do like TB for a wealth of knowledge there, but because of certain situations on there that I know about on a personal level, I refrain from getting involved with the "clique" in any personal way. I stick to tech & lounge BSing on there.
TBS never really did trip my trigger as much. Nothing against you Canook bastards, I'm checking this place out, right? :confused;

Scott Keller is the found father of the Turbo Buick mailing list that predates all the bulletin boards by years. The transition to bulletin boards back around 1997 was easy with his base. It's his fault we all know Zap and Sylvan :rofl;
-
Actually, after having met him years ago in BG - he's pretty cool. I respect him mostly for speaking his mind, and not seeming to care what others think.
-
What I don't understand is why GNTTYPE gets so little traffic?
I think that's because it's purely a technical forum and allot of the available resources there are old tech. I think that site could be the premier website (again) if it was revamped.
-
You know a common thread among the new members is that the tech section here is lacking. So was TBS's, T6P, TB, and ALL the other Buick Bulletin Boards when they first started. You want a good tech section, start asking tech questions and they will get answered and stored and then there will be a good tech section. There more than enough people that can answer those questions posting here now.
Bulletin Boards are owned by individuals (and now conglomerates) but the content is largely based upon the input of the posting members. Mark has made it very clear what this board is here for... YOU the posting members and this board will be exactly what the posting members make it. :cool;
Enjoy!

I don't see why everyone get's their panties in a wad over silly shit over there.

Just enjoying the drama. I was sharing the fun but can stop if you wish Mein Kommandant! :salute:

I don't care if anyone posts it, it's mildly amusing.
I expected that place to rebound a bit, but it hasn't.

I wonder how long the paying vendors will put up with no banner ads. Very surprised that wasn't high on their list when they redid the site.
-
Our vendors tend to be poor marketers. Few promotions, sales or new announcements.
Doubt the banner clicks bring much fresh business.
That is true.
Most don't think they need to with the pocket audience.
NOS4GN is decent, but overall you hit the nail on the head.

Believe me Mark, they have been bitching. You guys just don't get to see it. :)

Not the forums I get to see. Mods have their own forum so we can discuss what's going on. :)
