General Buick Tech / possibly leaning out according to wideband?
« on: September 14 2013, 12:28:50 AM »
Just put a wideband in the car today along with a new 3" downpipe. My WOT a/f is anywhere from 10.4 to 12.4..... depending on how fast I am going.
I just did a couple pulls (the car pulls very hard for what it is) and it went from 10.4 to 11.8 in a matter of seconds. It seemed to hang around 11.8 and not go up from there. I did a pull on the highway, and my a/f went from the 10s to 12.4 and hungout there? Am I missing something here, is this normal? I dont seem to be getting any KR I see some points here and there and they go away....I have been fighting false knock for awhile now. It's dark out right now and I can't see my fuel pressure gauge, but I know that I have quite a bit of fuel added (45 line off, 5% added through chip for safety measures, no alky just straight 93 octane) the car has slight bolt ons, including a ta49, 60lb injectors and a tt chip...racetro nix fuel pump and hangar, new fuel filter, adjustable regulator, etc. the wideband is not hooked up to the computer, it is a stand alone system.

14-18 pounds of boost (yeah, the wastegate hole needs to be opened up quite a bit) on straight 93. also have a couple degrees of timing pulled out in 3rd to compensate for the boost in 3rd.

Mine is so melted I can see NO visible part numbers ln it. Want to hear the kicker? This is my only vehicle, which I drive 100 miles a day (I built it for this purpose) mostly stock car with some boltons) lets see how much longer it lasts...the correct part number I have found to crossover is 2450362*4*

Well, looks like rockauto screwed me royally. Putting the ign module in and noticed its about an inch longer yhan my original. Pinout is the same and wires under coil are as well. Am I going to fry something if I use this module temporarily until I get the correct one? Looks like an 85....part number. 24503625.

General Buick Tech / to say the least....discouraged

Title says it all. Basically restored my 86 over a period of a year (paycheck after paycheck) only
To trash 2 thrust bearings in 6000 miles. New one is in (installed properly) and transmission charge pressure dropped from 65 to 25 (!!!!) I just changed the oil for the first time since new thrust bearing and found same tiny metal particles in oil. :(. Let me give you guys a little background on driveline.....
Motor 50k on it, put new trans in behind it with ck performance 3000lu. 6,000 miles gp by and I break the crank between #1 and #2 rod journals. O.K, I can work with this. Buy another crank, get all machine work done and in 1000 miles motor trashes #2 and #3 mains, along with thrust bearing TRASHED. wow, ok. So pull it out again, this time getting whole assembly balanced and align honed the mains.....moto r has not trashed any bearings since EXCEPT the thrust. First in 2000 miles, second in 4000 (not as bad pf shape, but the A series bearings in) and now im on my third. Hopefully it was just leftovers. :( sucks so bad. 21 years old and love this car with all of my heart...if its a block issue im going to be pissed.
