General Buick Tech / Rear Lift
« on: July 27 2014, 07:11:13 PM »
I just put new rims and tires on my my 84 TType and the wider tires are very close to the outer rear lip.  In looking at the car, the rear still sags even with new springs and shocks.  I would like to raise the rear about 1/2 to 1 inch.  Can anyone recommend the best way to do this?

As always, thanks for all input.

General Auto Tech / 84 Lear Siegler seat Bun?
« on: July 05 2014, 10:46:23 AM »
I have been looking to re-upholster my 84 Lier Siegler seats for some time now but I'm thinking that replacing the bun would be wise as well.  Problem is I cannot find any buns that will fit the Lier Siegler seats.  Kirban's and Gbodyparts don't have any that will fit.  The closest I could find were these:  http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/products/1982%252d83-Camaro-LS-%E2%80%9CCouture%E2%80%9D-Lowback-Buckets-%7B47%7D-Pace-Car-Seat-Foam,-Sold-in-Pairs-ONLY.html

The driver's side looks like the right size with the cut out for the knee support, but they are only sold in pairs.

Any help would be appreciated.

General Buick Tech / Differential Install
« on: April 13 2014, 05:03:08 PM »
Well, got the new diff and all associated parts.  I have gotten all the seals and bearing installed and just finished the differential install.  I used the instructions for Posi Conversion on gnttype.org to help me with the install.  I installed all the shim and the driver's side was pretty tight and I had to tap in the shim which was stated in the instructions.

Now that I have everything in, I'm ready to do the marking compound test, but I have one question first:  How tight is the differential supposed to be?  It's a bit hard to turn.  One way is pretty easy, but the other way is pretty tight and I have to use both hands to get it turned.  Is this normal?

General Buick Tech / Differential Pinion Gear Shaft removal
« on: March 15 2014, 04:18:09 PM »
I'm trying to remove my rear axles in order to replace the axle seals.  Problem is, the pinion gear shaft is pretty pooched and I cannot get the damn thing out.  I have knocked it out about two inches but had to turn the pin around so it doesn't get stuck inside the housing.  I have had no progress pulling the pin the rest of the way out.  Does anyone have any advice on getting this pin out?

I appreciate all advice.

General Buick Tech / Anti Theft or short
« on: February 18 2014, 07:11:46 PM »
Hello, been a while since I have posted.  I have gotten my new engine going and all is running very nice.  I have been doing the break-in process and hope to be finished within the next week.  I thought I would share a problem that I have but I'm thinking that it isn't a real problem.

It has been very cold this winter her in Virginia and I have been only able to take the car out on Sundays and only for about 15 minutes or so.  By the time Saturday rolls around, the battery is stone cold dead.  No lights, nothing.  I spend the next day charging it up enough to get a start and then run it again for about 15 minutes or so.  I was thinking that there was a short, but I have realized that this car has the Anti Theft device in it.  It's an 84 T Type with the 87 power plant.

My question is:  Is it the Anti Theft that is draining the battery or is there also a short that I need to look for?

Thanks to all.  Keep rockin..

General Buick Tech / Oil Leak
« on: September 14 2013, 07:37:42 PM »
My engine is leaking oil in the rear from both the driver and passenger sides.  I lifted the car and ran it for about 15 minutes and then let it cool.  On driver's side the oil ran down the block and to the transmission and then dripped onto the crossover pipe.  On the passenger side, it ran down the block, onto the starter and then dripped off.  I traced the oil back to the rear corner of the heads on both sides.

My engine is a TA Performance block with aluminum heads.  The engine and heads are new.  My question is this:  Could this leak be caused by the heads needing to be re-torqued?

General Buick Tech / Another Problemo
« on: August 19 2013, 07:55:37 PM »
Well found a transmission leak and had to remove the radiator to fix it.  The cooler line wasn't screwed in good enough to the radiator to make a seal.  Easy fix.

Now, when I removed the radiator, I had folded both radiator hoses back up and away to keep the hoses from getting in the way of the radiator.  Now, putting the radiator back in, I brought the bottom radiator hose down to mount and when I did, a bunch of water started leaking from around the engine.  I couldn't find where it was flowing from with all the accessories still on.  When I was finally able to crawl under the car, the water had finished flowing out and I could not find a source.  I checked the bottom hose and didn't find any splits in it.  It was dark in the garage so I could have missed something.

I would appreciate any advise as to where to check for any leaks.  I guess I could put the upper hose back on and fill the radiator and see if it leaks and trace it.  However I just wanted to get some input from here first.

Thanks.

General Buick Tech / Installed the Hydroboost but....
« on: July 13 2013, 06:25:39 PM »
I installed the Hydroboost as per the links and vids that were posted here.  I bled all the breaks as well as the master cylinder by doing a gravity bleed and the old pump and hold.  However, my pedal goes all the way to the floor.  I thought that it would stiffin up after I bled everything, however no matter what it still goes all the way to the floor.  I also made sure that the rear brakes were set properly.  No matter how much I bleed the brakes, the pedal goes to the floor.

As always, I would greatly appreciate any help.

General Buick Tech / Powermaster to Powerboost Conversion
« on: June 27 2013, 12:39:45 PM »
I have decided to remove my Powermaster and replace it with a Powerboost system for my 87 setup.  I have heard of the Powerbooster being installed on an 87 setup, however I'm not sure of how the lines need to run.  Can anyone help out with a write-up, a diagram or even some pics?

Thanks in advance.

General Buick Tech / Won't Start
« on: April 04 2013, 08:09:00 PM »
Hello, I am pretty new to this board, and have not posted until now.   Well, I have finally finished installing the my new engine and have gotten a chip burned and installed.  However, I cannot seem to get the engine started and running.  It turns over and catches but dies immediately.  I tried to start it a few times with no luck with the same thing happening every time, it catches and within a a second, it dies. I changed out the spark plugs but I still get the same result, start, catch and die.  When I changed the spark plugs, I noticed that there was a very strong fuel odor and the original plugs were severely fouled.

If it is flooding, what should I look at in fixing this problem?  I have looked at posts on the other board, but have still come up with nothing.  I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could provide.

 Thanks.

General Buick Tech / 1984 TType Drive train upgrade question
« on: April 01 2011, 12:21:01 PM »
My TType is an 84 so in order for me to run the electric fan, I had to use Casper's electronic fan jumper.  Well, when I converted the entire drive train to the 86/87, I installed the Casper's wiring harness but I found that I still have to use the fan jumper as the electronic fan still won't turn on even though the wire harness has the hook up and I'm running an 86/87 ECM.  Do I need to also change the fuse box out in order to not have to use the fan jumper or is there something else I'm missing?  I appreciate any and all help.
