« on: June 24 2012, 02:58:39 PM »
stopped by Rich's Custom Auto today and Ed Baker was in the house...then Jim Testa showed up...this was a gathering of Buick Guru's to help Rich's buddy Homer get his trans fixed...well i am not a guru but did hold a light...oh and I advised Ed on how to remove windshield and rear window molding clips on Rich's GN...Jim Testa was going to rebuild the trans but I had to leave to get home to watch England Vs Italy in the UEFA Euro 2012. seems they are all going to BPG in August too...

As I do all the purchasing I was involved in setting up installation of the Glasurit 90 line water based system...the only real reason i posted is the fact that McLaren has a contract with BASF for the Red that is on some of their cars. these are copyrighted colors that can only be sold to authorized McLaren Shops... Much like the NASCAR car colors...back in the 80's/90's lots of people wanted the Tide Orange...but as it was copyrighted it was not available to the public...only to the jobbers that supplied the Race Team...This has been a limited trend in the automotive refinish industry the first I was involved with was the Ford Saleen Mystic Mustang.. Saleen Mustang iridescent paint  if this car was damaged the bodyshop had to contact their supplier who had to contact the paint rep who then went to the shop to verify that the car was there and decided how much material was needed...it was then sent to that rep who then took it to the shop in person and had to watch it being applied and took what was ever left over...crazy.. .but it was new technology at the time....i actually went to the BASF site Whithouse OH to see them produce the first car...what you see is toned down as the original color was a lot more vibrant...they actually had a stripe that was 18" wide and about 20' long in the reception area...it was pretty cool to walk down the stripe and see the colors change

had to install 5 fence posts using a post hole digger....I did get smart and used my hammer drill will a 3/4 " 18" bit to drill holes in the ground first...then used the post hole digger to remove the loose dirt.  Went down 18" put in posts then filled with quikcrete and going to let them set over night before I install the fencing. It is now beer time then a nap before we have friends over for a BBQ...There will be 2 gates one on the path then another 8' in the center so I can get my truck and tractor into the back yard

IHADAV8 Playground / Installed new Stereo in Elise
« on: April 26 2012, 09:12:50 PM »
well as you know I do not mess around when I am motivated. the old unit was fine but as it was located in glove box and had a tape deck it was hard to switch stations or mess with the volume. So I looked into some new reproduction stereos and could not find anything for my 67 that had all the features I wanted. I then did a search on hidden units and came across this, http://www.casmfg.com/Secretaudio.htm I really wanted the unit with the hand held remote but when ordering i was told they were on back order and would not be available for months...so I went the SST over the SRMS... The hardest part was getting the old radio out of the glove box. As the previous owner had done a really good job of installing it including electrical connections installing the new head unit was a breeze. the old radio was only 25 watts per channel and this new one is 50 watts per channel so it is louder. This weekend I will install my Amp and Sub Box. The FM stereo reception is far better than the previous unit. I hooked up my I-pod classic and it worked without any issues. It is nice to be able to control the head unit by the Wired commander and also the RF remote...even from outside the car..
