Hi Steve hope all is well with you but then again letting us know how to live the long life like you now I have to look into goats meat.
I hope the goats like the afternoon feeding since I'm not a morning person, too many years of doing the early shift and now I start to function late morning at best. I guess I would have to invest in a automatic feeder, and several of the Robot Cleaners. :chin:
You're still the man

Post up if that shifter cable works correctly. I got locals asking me non stop for a correct length shifter cable that fits/works correctly.
Okay, Today I work on my GN almost all day trying to find different combinations with the new shifter cable (26") installed to see if I can shift into 1st gear. I don't race but want to have the availably of going into 1st gear as it did when it came out of the factory.
The Parts Place shifter cable measure distances of 26" Eyelet to Eyelet
Amazon shifter cable measure distances of 26" Eyelet to Eyelet
Gbodyparts on EBay shifter cable measure distances of 25 3/4" Eyelet to Eyelet  $79.95 S&H free

Member on turbobuick bought an GM NOS floor shift cable 22519497 measure distances of 25 3/4" Eyelet to Eyelet
I already had the PartsPlace shifter cable long before taking to the turbobuick member as some one else told me the length was 26"
Right now I'm debating on getting another shifter cable, but if I do it will from either one of the EBay sellers.

I tried my GN this morning.  It has about that much play in the shifter so either it is normal, or it is wear and tear on the mechanism after all these years.  I thought it might be cable movement, but, I think it has to be in the detents that hold the shifter into a particular gear.
I replaced the shifter cable, the transmission Selector Bracket Steering Column Shifter Cross Shaft Bushings, and the Transmission Shifter Cross Shaft Linkage Bushing Spring. It did felted more tighter; as it has that very little play, buy thanks to your finding I will make another linkage adjustment.
I was trying to see if I can shift into all gears including 1st gear. I don't race or have the need to go into 1st gear, just wanted to see if replacing the shifter cable and some adjustment I would achieve that.
I still would like to know the actual length of the OEM shifter cable from eye to eye

Both shifter cables length are close to eye to eye measurement

Maybe the light and wire popped out of the holder\bracket and is ''floating'' around. If so it's only a matter of time till it gets jammed up in the linkage and gets smashed. BTDT
Yes you're right, the bub was slightly off the socket so I remove the shifter plate and reconnected the bulb back onto the socket.
Thanks for your input

Sounds like the linkage is out of adjustment a bit and the shifter is not quite in the neutral position when the transmission is in Neutral.  If you move the shifter a little, do you only get one lit brightly?

There is no way to adjust the light to my knowledge, only the linkage.
Hi Steve hope all is well with you, and yes if I move the shifter a little the next indicator light starts to light up.
I removed the shifter top plate and saw the bulb was not secure into the socket.
I might have disturbed the sifter light as I was replacing the shifter cable.
In a couple of days I will readjust the shifter cable linkage again
Is it normal to have about 1/2" of free play"
There is no play or movement on the transmission end, but on the shifter handle It has about 1/2" play

Hi All,
Is there a way to adjust the shifter indicator light so only the neutral or overdrive indicator light displays with only ONE indicator light being lit?
Thanks

My Throttle Body was leaking a bit and when I checked it it looked like it was slightly wrapped so I place emerald sand paper on top of a piece of glass and the Throttle Body surface came out smooth and level.

This one is 3 3/4 to 23 1/8

The Professional model is a bit lower and a bit higher.
3.25 to be 24.25
Hi Steve,
Hope all is well with you and your family, and yes I too got this
DAYTONA
3 Ton Long Reach Low Profile Professional Rapid Pump Floor Jack, Black, good price with discount coupon
When I was doing the rear end bushings my old floor jack finally didn't want to stay up after 20+ years of service. The new one being its low profile I was able to get underneath the rear end.

Wondering if anyone on the board has an injector flow test machine and is willing to check them.
I have some Siemens 60's I need flow tested as I bought them used and was told they had been cleaned about 1000 miles ago but I need peace of mind.
If you go to https://www.turbobuick.com, and contact Chuck Leeper
He did mine 60# injectors as he check them out, clean them with new oil rings and also gave a before and after flow chart

General Buick Tech / Re: Another oil leak
« on: December 23 2021, 10:19:21 AM »
Rockers always leaked on my engine. I used every fukn gasket going. Got pissed off and used the Right Stuff on it...no more leaks. Just need a crowbar to get the rockers off.
Have you try Victor VS 39763 TC General Motors V/6 196 231 252 Engine Valve Cover Gasket (EBay)
EBay has them for about $15.66.
I had them on for about 15 years with no leaks, and just recently replaced the value springs I used my same spare set and again no leak when start up.
The only thing using this gasket I had to used a Dremel with a round sanding bit to take off about 1/8" only one side of the gasket holes. This is due to the nature of valve cover gets narrow towards the valve cover mounting hole hear the bolt holes. I then put some RTV on the valve cover place Victor's gasket and NO RTV on the heads.
The heads are not mill flat, and this gasket has a very thin metal sandwich between cork material, and when you tighten the valve cover bolts this gasket will bend just enough compensate the little rounded heads.

as far as I know, you have not done anything to lose oil pressure.  I always just dribble oil over the springs and rockers for some pre-lube and start the engine.
Hi Steve,
I finally got the part, assembly all, and today I started the engine
At 1st I was concern about the intake gasket as I did put very little of Permatex ultra black gasket maker rtv silicone around the water and intake ports, on both sides of the intake gasket. Once the engine started for a few seconds I did checked the oil dip stick just to make sure there was no water mix with the oil. There was a lot of ticking noise coming from the valve springs, and I did put comps cam spray lubricate on everything except on the lifters. I did put regular oil on the lifters as I lifted them up rotate them a bit just to make sure none of them was stuck or hanging up.
I guess it took awhile for the oil to lube through push rods and after a few seconds the ticking noise got quieter.
According to Comps Cam, run the engine between 1500-2000rpm until the engine is running at normal temperature.
I ran it for about 15 minutes, shut down and let it cool down, and after 1/2 hrs I started the engine again and I can tell you the engine runs and sounds good.

Thanks Again Steve

you want to tighten each one just a little and go to the next one..work up and down the shaft until all have reached 25
Yes that is what I did on the driver side, as I'm waiting fir the passenger side retainers to come this coming Thursday.
Thanks again Steve for the great info

I don't.  torqued to 25 ft lbs, they should not come loose.

I think it is wise to try to torque them down evenly (going up and down the shaft several times.  If I remember, putting the engine on TDC will have most of the passenger side valve close to being closed and that will allow minimum work against the springs when torquing the shafts down.  Then turning the engine about a 1/4 turn will get a number of the driver's side valve close to being closed to minimize spring loads against the shafts...

I have heard of shafts cracking or breaking when someone tried to tighten one bolt on the way down at once rather than going back and forth.

I don't know if anyone makes studs to replace the factory shaft bolts, but those would be nice, imo.

Thanks for the great info of setting the engine to TDC for the passenger side, as I already bolted down the driver side.
I 1st tighten bolts by hand, then used 7/16" socket and tighten each bolt sequential .
I will turn the engine about a 1/4 turn for the driver's side valve to close, and check again the 25 ft-lbs torqued

Hi Steve,
While I'm waiting for the rest of the retainers to come in, is it wise or not to put blue threaded lock on the rocker arm shaft bolt and torque to 25 ft-lb
Thanks
