General Buick Tech / Re: Attention Fuel Pump Installers
« on: July 25 2016, 09:56:45 AM »
Makes no sense.☺  So your FP is 45 psi with the hose off the regulator?  Yet it is 41 when the engine is running?   Do you mean it is 41 when you put the hose back on the regulator?   And the engine is running in both cases?

I'm pretty sure that is what you mean, but I don't know if Tar Baby understands how fuel pressure is set.

Of course it's early in the morning and maybe I am just confused😄

Get some more coffee.  As long as you're at idle (and under vacum) pressure will go down when you attache the vac line.

Alan, were those runs at Bandimere?

Baileyton, AL or Jakes in Moulton, AL

That is very impressive with 235's! The only reason I ask is everyone says my car is slow yet it weighs 4050lb with me in it and I ran a mid 11 on pump gas.  I think my best 1/8 time was around the 7.2 second range might be a little better I have to dig up my slip.  But my 60 foot was around 1.76 and mph was around 92/93 but on pump gas I can't complain.  I do need to hook better.

Get that down to 1.55 and you're running 6's

Alan...do you know the short time for the Baileyton run? Checking RPM launch data to my own. This convertor couples well...but I think I'm working too hard to get it to launch in the 1.5's. Several guys I race with have dumped DR's in favour of ET Streets. We have the short times to back it up.

The 7.07 at Baileyton was 1.576.

Drag Radials are good but the track has to be prepped for them.  Softwall slicks Actually need to slip just a little bit but Radials have to dead hook. If you spin them their done.  Baileyton used to be regarded as a slick track they worked at it themselves and invited a few of us out to test the prep.

This was the result.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A1-X4iL_dw&index=19&list=PL3EC08B6F6FF8C9E3    Their starting line prep was good but about 30 ft out it was awful.  The Caddy thought he had that one :-)

But they brought in VP and their traction consulting team and worked at it, switched to LC-7 and preped the track just like Pud and Tyler said to and it got really good.

And I know folks say that you only have to turn over radials to clean them off and that's bullshit.  I roll through the water and stop on the edge of the box set the line lock and don't stop until I see smoke rolling out of the fenderwells. (I've seen 3rd gear on the PL during the burnout before) And I don't spin them over in the water either.

Like so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zwhjCmDmyc&index=20&list=PL3EC08B6F6FF8C9E3

Click off the lock and just let it roll forward, don't back up, roll right up to the prestage and wait.  Set the 2 step bring the revs up a little and wait for the other guy to go in first.  WHen the stage beam goes on Hold the brake and floor it.  The 2 step is set to 3200 with 15 degrees of retard. Boost controller is set to 12PSI (it will go above that) and the ISAC controller is set to Disable alky on the 2 step.  I  had to slow down the boost ramp in the ISAC to keep it from blowing the tires off in the first 60 ft.

You need to be close to 10PSI to leave with a 1.5

Car is really performing! :cool;   Some day I hope to run some decent times.  What is your car weighing in at?

Whatever full weight is for an 86 with complete interior, no fiberglass .....

235/60/15 ET Street

Here are a few corresponding to the 7.01, 7.07 and 7.25 runs.

I also have all powerlogger data and run logs

145
Alan, what convertor is in the car...and is it LU or NLU?

2800 PTC Lockup

Here's the 7.07 pass from a gopro on the front fender looking back.  It unloads the front pretty well

I haven't been to the track in over a year.  The trans don't particularly like the motor which is a Hogeland built Twisted 6 motor.  30 over, 206./210 Roller cam, Hand ported stock heads.  Tooks us a while to get it to quit spraying oil out the breathers and get the boost to come up to where it needed to be.  The 7.2 was on 23 PSU and the 7.01 was on 25.  All of this is On 93 and alky.  The datalogs say it's spraying enough fuel for 570 HP but it's only dynoed at 440.

Lots of Photo's here

Alan said he would pop in when he had a chance.  Eibach springs, ATR bar, boxed lower arms, urethane bushings

Both upper and lower are boxed.

I felt my ears burning.

Like Steve said.  Car is Basic, nothing fancy.

Boxed stock lower control arms. I used the H&R precut plates and we added a washer around the bolt holes (All the bolt holes including the sway bar bolts).

ATR Sway bar. Funny story the ATR bar was free, it was back in the death throws of ATR and they sent me 2 by accident.

Prothane Poly Bushings in all 4 links.

Bilstein Shocks.

And Not that matters the car has Eibach lowering springs on it.  That probably makes it worse.

The incrementals are

Reaction time 0.978
60ft: 1.579
330 4.641
ET 7.256
MPI 93.61

And

RT: .969
60 FT:  1.677
330: 4.777
ET: 7.41
MPH 92.99

As  you can see by the RT I'm not trying to kill the tree.  I just let go of the brake when the boost hits around 10 PSI.

Since then I've added a TR6 ignition with a 2-step and the game is now

RT: .497
60ft 1.503
330FT: 4.498
ET: 7.016
MPH 97.78

The real secret is that the guys at the track know their radial tire prep and are generous with the stick-icky

Here's another one With the 2-step.  It hit the limiter pretty hard in first

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo5MsZh-LD8&list=PL3EC08B6F6FF8C9E3&index=26

Different track so no 330timer
Reaction 1.190
60ft 1.5716
594 ft: 6.618
ET 7.075
MPH: 98.6
