Exhaust ideas
« on: September 24 2018, 09:47:54 AM »
Hey guys...i have a Pypes 2.5 system on the car now with a 3 inch DP.....Works great but the drone is just getting too annoying. I put some Magnaflos mufflers on a camero that had terrible drone and took care of 90% of it.  What works well on these to flow but not drone? Thanks

Dynomax Ultra Flos, Hooker Max Flows, or Magnaflows are all similar from my experience

There are some threads on 3 muffler setups that kill it completely. I believe Bob Bailey has his car set up that way.

The 3 muffler is to make the exhaust really quiet.  I was thinking of getting the GN1 exhaust and adding a magnaflow for the third muffler.

I thought about this 3rd muffler idea.....placi ng it where the converter was....will this kill the spool up or hold back boost on top?

I have Ultra flos on one car and the Hooker Max Flows on the other.  Neither drone.

The third muffler will make it quieter.  It will add a little restriction.  I doubt it is a major eater of HP...at least if your car is making less than 500 hp

I have a 2.5" Hooker cat-back system on my GN. It came with Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers. They absolutely DO NOT DRONE, and sound great. They have many, many, thousands of miles on them too, and no drone.

I have the same system but with my 6468 and a .85 A/R it drones!  No drone on my TE44 or TE62 or CPT66.

Every combo is different for sure...mine was great and then I went from a stock down pipe to a 3 inch and it drones really bad now

The Hooker catback system has come with different mufflers over the years. Just to be clear, and I understand you stated you have the same system, but did your system come with the aerochamber mufflers? Just for more info on my car, I'm running a 6262 Precision turbo, Champion ported irons with match ported intake, 212/212 cam w/roller rockers, and a .030 over motor. And ........ no drone.  :D

No drone at 123 mph with my dual ATR setup...just sounds like the worlds coming to an end with all the air leaks around the door windows and T-tops.

the Aero's have always had a reputation for being quiet.  I think if you search for some flow tests, they are more restrictive than the MAX Flows or other straight thrus

I just put on some 3" Borla S-Types that have no drone but yet sound incredible when you get on it.  They are straight through design which is recommended for our cars.
Champion Irons w/T&D roller rockers, TA-61 turbo, 206/206 Comp Cam,  57 lb/hr Siemens Injectors, 3000 stall PTC, PTE Plenum w/RJC Power Plate, 70 mm Accufab Throttle Body, RJC 325 Megacooler, TurboTweak 5.7/ Alky Control w/M1 methanol, 23 psig on the street, Puddn' Power engine, Borla Exhaust
