It sprung a Leak
« on: September 16 2013, 11:05:08 PM »
Well, the original tank developed a leak. I had previously dropped it to install a Red Armstrong pump many moons ago. I had been told that the rubber strap cushions hold dirt and rust out the tank so I painted the tank to thwart that. That's why there are blue "racin" stripes on the old one.

The tank was involved in a transportation incident. I had the car on a trailer. We were moving so I had a "few" other things on the trailer too. I was glad I bought the 18' . I had strapped my two wheel dolly under the rear of the car on the 2' dovetail. Little did I know the movement of the car would cause the tank to receive a dent as the two wheeler didn't give way.  Live n learn.

It developed a drip so I ordered a new Chinese tank as it was cheap(<$125 shipped to my door). Support the vendors I know, I know. Next time when I can. This tank has a 3" deep pan in it so I guess it will work.

From the top of the pan

From the bottom of the pan.

Pulled the hanger out and the pulsator replacement tube was a little worse for wear.

I am searching up a replacement. The local auto parts purveyor only had a hose that was rated to 50psi. I declined that and we played twenty questions. He thought it "should work", I didn't want to drop the tank again so we shall continue to search.

More when we do more.

Be sure you use the hose that is rated for submersion. Costs about a dollar per foot

Kims International is near University north of the botanical gardens Rich. They specialize in just about any type of hose you could ever need. They've even made custom hoses for me when I couldn't find brake lines. They do good work if you need something that you can't find. :atbeer:

I think there is a spectre tank with baffles now,
When I did mine only the pieplate was available and I drew the line at paying GM $700 for a tank.
Not been a problem, I just keep the tank full when rowdy :)

Don't sweat the baffling - the tank you bought is just fine.

I got my submersion (E85 compat, etc) from NAPA. I also got the vent and return hoses at the same time and replaced them as well.

At Napa up here the correct hose came packaged in 1 foot sections and was $50 over 5 years ago! I still have the unused portion hanging in the shop.

I was just fixin to ask where to find it for a buck a ft.

I see the oreillys here has that gates #27097 for $30 for a foot.
Might swing in and pick up a ft.
I'm going to call the kim's place. I see it is on White Settlement. Ill be over there tomorrow afternoon.

Well it's raining here too so I'm glad I didn't put it back in yet. I'll pull the pump back out of the tank so I can get the correct submersible hose.

Kims has every kind of hose you can imagine, and a few you might not know about. Since you'll be over that way stop in and ask what they may have that would work for you Rich. I'm sure they even stock Teflon lined hoses that would survive even the worst kind of conditions.

Picked up a couple feet at the kims place. Thanks for the tip there Charlie. The counter man was "quirky" but I guess aren't we all.
He even made me a better deal than he quoted on the phone. If someone needs a foot we can probably have it to your door for half of the $30 that my local place wanted.
