Title: Any Truck-heavy equipment tech's here?
Post by: 1 RARE T on October 26 2019, 08:00:07 AM
I work in engineering / manage quality/ product support for a plant that produces off-road equipment.

We use JCB power-trains which are Tier 4 Final emissions compliant.

Going on year 3 of this current engine, we have a real issue with trouble codes coming up daily.

75% of the time they appear to mean nothing but the rest it turns out to be a fault which needs repair. Machines going into limp mode or shutting down.

I've argued that we need to investigate switching engine suppliers. These things are always "down" out in the field and our customers are extremely frustrated.

My question is, does anyone have similar stories with Cat, Cummins or anything else?

I don't think others are as problematic as JCB.

Looking for feedback from anyone who deals with this day to day.

Are you using them because they are cheap/cost-effective", emission compliant or some other reason?

Seems like  reliability  would outs strip either of these reasons. I would think it would be hard or will get here to sell unreliable equipment.

People/companies have
money or can get it at historically low rates so making a product that gets the customers problems solved seems like a better way to go than fileding calls on why the equipment is down and costing them more in down time than the coin they saved when purchasing.

Not sure why this box keeps wanting to resize the text. Might need to look into that.

I was in Pooler at JCB a couple months ago.

We used their engines for many years before Tier 4 with very little problems. Have the rights to sell JCB parts and we sell of crap-load.

Kinda stuck with them.

I heard rumours that many of the emission equipped engines are troublesome in the trucking industry.
Rumours suggest that defeat devices are popular.
These are only rumours mind you....
