Title: Rear Control Arms
Post by: Norm340 on September 14 2020, 07:50:31 PM
Hey Guys

If I was going to remove the lower control arm to replace the bushings.
Is there a certain way to remove the lower arms?
Like having jack stands under the frame and the floor jack under the diff then loosen the bolts.
Maybe only remove one arm at a time, is there tension on the sway bar?
That kind of stuff.

Kinda know how to remove and install the bushings but the arms not so much.

Thanks

Get the longest pry bar you can find.

The sway bar has to come off to get the arms out.  Take those bolts out, stands under the frame, then remove the control arm bolts.

They'll be 'stuck' due to the frame being pinched in.  Just pry them out.   Without weight on the axle, nothing is going to go flying.

Norm...piss on the stockers. UMI has cheap replacements.. .and they won't flex.

I always did one side at a time just to make sure I did not have wrestle with the axle housing to get it back into place if it decided to move any.  This is one of the easier jobs to do.

Thanks you guys.

Earl: I'll follow those instructions.

Brad: I have a squeak coming from one of those bushings and
have 4 new ones just sitting in the tool box so I thought lets have a look.
UMI says due to high demand it may take 4-5 weeks so I might check them out again just before spring.

Steve is correct...one side at a time. You'll need a bar to get them back into place.
