Come on, Steve!  Taxes and Tariffs are two different things.  He put tariffs on Aluminum and other metals of 30%.  Our government is actually subsidizing some of those tariffs.  But that being said our government probably has added taxes on it but now it is taxes on the extra 30% from tariffs.  I recall Harley Davidson saying it is moving for production off shore after he announced those tariffs!

Actually, the filter is for my Truck.  I've already changed the oil 3 times with only 1200 km on my car.

I changed the oil/filter on my GN after every race weekend...and I raced most weekends. 8 bucks a couple times a year. I don't wanna hear about it.
You really need to learn how to read!  Three oil changes at $8 cost $24 but 3 changes at $13 cost $39!

And again this isn't for my Buick!

Canadians have had a one sided, poor me, import/export system for years.  In three days, I could bring an entire crew of Canadians and its equipment to the States and be on the way to the field to work.  But, if I wanted to take a crew into Canada, I had to prove that no Canadian was skilled enuf to do the job and the vehicles, etc. had to be picked up in Canada unless I could prove that it was not available in Canada for purchase.

Completely one-sided.  I could transfer a Canadian to the States, he could buy a house and set up residence and all I had to do was renew his residence every year.  Virtually impossible to transfer any one to Canada on a long term basis.

Protectionism at its worst!

I believe the US should establish reciprocal trade agreements with all countries based upon either US laws or the other country's laws.  If you want to be able to ship to us, we have the same right to ship to you.  If you want to send people here, we have the right to send people there.  Canada and Mexico were two of the hardest countries I ever had to deal with including China.

rock on, Trump!

How long ago was this?

I have friends that work for big Engineering firms and if they ever mentioned they were doing work in the US they would not be allowed entry.  They were told by US customs, "Don't we have people here that can do that job?"  So they would always say they are meeting family or taking a vacation.

Again, you didn't respond to the comments Harley Davidson made or the change in steel prices.

Sorry for having Free Will.  I don't like any politician, our Prime Minister included.  They do not have the people's best interest all they care about is the big Multi-National corporations!

I didn't respond to Harley Davidson because it was a diversion and had nothing to do with my statements.  However, Harley is a company begging for a bail out.  They don't offer a product that is in wide demand in the marketplace with a quality that is not always competitive with the competition.  The steel industry has been more or less defunct in this country due to dumping by producers based overseas that have been getting subsidized and allowed to bring a cheap product to this country at a price that is below normal market.  I just read that US manufacturers are cranking up, hiring people and competing in world markets again.  Harley will either get management that understands what it used to do is not competitive in marketplace and offer a product that is desired, or it will fail, or be taken over by someone.  It has the problem that Caterpillar and others did.  It failed to evolve with market expectations.

Your friends were coming into the country without having the correct visa.  I used to tell people I was sending on short term assignments to say the same thing because I did not want to waste time and paper work on people that were just coming to fix a problem that could not be fixed by local staff.  For people that were coming down here for a period of time.  I called the lawyer and told him to get them work visas.  It was easy but took a few days whereas when something broke, I could not afford the down time associated with a few days delay.  I cannot tell you what it takes today with the contention going on between the countries due to Trump demanding fair play.

  Again.

Back when I was in the motorcycle business, the US government levied a ''harley tax'' on all imports (AKA everything EXCEPT harleys), ''to make them more competitive''

Like anyone looking at a Yamaha FZR600 crotch rocket would consider a hardley FLSKRJRERKERJ wide glide custom bagger as a potential option.

All it did was prop up a piss poor company that made piss poor products and couldn't sell them at a marketable price.      ....and jack up the price of every other motorcycle in the US.

It really hurt powersports sales as well.  Along with all the missed tax revenue, DMV revenue, etc...

You're right on the Visa's but the guys that had the proper Visa's were denied entry and then the Lawyers had to get involved.  So if the job was less than 6 months they wouldn't worry about it and were advised to say they were taking a training course!  After 6 months you can pay that country's taxes which are most definitely less than Canada's!

Fair play?  That's funny because last time I checked the US is giving Canada 1/3 of the market value for oil.  Sounds real fair to me!  Numbers are estimated at an $80 billion dollar loss a year.  Then there is the soft wood lumber!

Steve, understand where you are coming from but somewhere along the line the politicians put in Free Trade for a global trading system.  So either proceed with this so called Free Trade or get rid of it totally.

I just hope we get rid of Trudope before they put in the Carbon Tax! :013: :013: :013:

What do you think the fair market price of oil is?  The US is producing a surplus above it's needs right now.  I am not sure why we continue to buy oil elsewhere, but, our own government has been against domestic production for a long time, and old tricks die hard, I guess.  It is against domestic farming as well.  It should be noted that the US seldom buys oil as an entity.  The world oil price is set by oil buyers on an international stage.  Opec is not the only price manipulator.

If your passport has the right visa in it, you can cross.  In either direction..... As I stated, I could bring an entire crew of Canadian personnel and its equipment (no matter where the equipment originated) without any undue hassle across the border and go to California, or wherever, but doing the reciprocal was not allowed under any conditions.  Canada has long been a protectionist.  It's not the only one. Australia may have been worse.

North America should remove all trade restrictions and remove all trade borders.  Then the rest of the world would have to jump thru hoops to trade on a fair basis with us.  Other than rare minerals, North America has an abundance of natural resources and a population base that makes it a viable proposition.

Europe is folding inward due to a long run of socialist corruption that rewards bankers and otherwise rich people.  The Far East/India is choking on a population that consumes more than it can produce.  It's not too late for us if we can put a halt to the left wing march which is strangely being led by the super rich.

Trudeau, Clinton et al are simply symptoms of the disease.  The disease lies deeper and hidden.

Anyway, I cannot see any reason you would be changing your filter so frequently unless you drive a lot more miles than I would envision

I only changed the oil so much on the car because it was a fresh rebuild.  I'm just looking for a decent filter that is a little less expensive for the Truck.

I don't know if you crossed the border recently but there are a lot of pissed of Custom Agents especially with all these so called refugees coming over!  I'm going State side this weekend to buy all these cheaper products with my monetary exemption for staying there. :icon_lol:
