After doing a oil changed is when I started to smell like wire burning coming around underneath the powermaster.
I think my powermaster finally went after being the original of having 90,000 miles.
I was thinking of also doing the vacuum replacement but now I don't have to think, now I have an additional winter work load of doing the replacement. I do have a spare powermaster unit, but after reading many stories of not having brakes, I'm switching over to vacuum.
I did notice looking underneath I have the original cast iron Disc Drum Proportioning Valve.
If I'm replacing over to vacuum type do you think I should also replace the Disc Drum Proportioning Valve with the new type of being made of brass?
Also I see many type of claiming to be equal as GM from USA made to China made
Has anyone replace the Disc Drum Proportioning Valve, and id so which one and what type was your replacement?

Been a long time and I don't recall where I bought the two I changed, but I would definitely change it.

I've never heard that before. I was thinking there was X amount of time and that was it.
Not that I'd let a GM tech touch my car, I still have a factory iron valve on my GM
and GNONYX I have a conversion kit I built for a guy that flaked. Normal kit with SS braided lines and NOS Delco larger rear cylinders.

I never got a recall either but while I was at the dealer I asked about it and they changed it. Bastages spilled brake fluid all down the fender too.
1988 time frame tho.

Knowing today's cars are using Synthetic products, and also are using Synthetic Hi-Temp DOT 3 Brake Fluid, is it okay for our TR to use this type of DOT 3 brake fluid, or use regular non-Synthetic DOT 3 Brake Fluid?

Never mix DOT 5 with any other type tho as it is silicone based and is never compatible with any other brake fluid. Don't confuse it with DOT 5.1
Generally, I use Dot 4. Unless one is racing, it probably makes no difference and one would be better served by flushing all the fluid and replacing with new fluid every two years, imo

Like Steve says...flush it. I was taught brake fluid will get moisture in it. When it gets old it'll heat up easier and cause brake fade.

The moisture in the brake fluid will boil. When that happens, expansion in the hydraulic system starts up.
Steam is 1600 times bigger than water (and that's not a typo).
