Well, this thing is pretty clean inside, I was expecting a sludge puppy. Gem class for sure Steve!
I think these are the original plugs lol
I got it cleaned up and a fresh coat of black on it for the time being.

That's pretty damn good. Better than our CRV got this weekend, I think we averaged 34mpg.
How does it tow?

Took the boys on an adventure today. Picked this gem up down near Flint. 2002 LQ4 (6.0)/4L80E - supposed to have just under 200k on it. Since it was nearly a 2-hour ride each way I rewarded the boys with lunch @ Sonic.
It's a filthy bitch and had quite the nest under the intake!

List on FB market place - I'm looking at options. A couple of cheap 6.0s around might go that route.

Well shit - the 5.3 I have for this this probably garbage. Pulled it out of the stang this afternoon to start cleaning it up, and swap the cam/valve springs.
First problem - the engine wouldn’t turn over. I pulled the valve train and the rings were stuck for sure. 20min soak with pb and she broke free and spun okay. I wasn’t happy about it but decided move forward as planned and swap the cam. The cam had a lot more resistance than expected, I had to give it a pretty good tug to break it free. There was some noise, but I thought it was hung up on a lifter, nope - this pos spun the #3 cam bearing and it cam out with the camshaft.

Just spray it down with Flex Seal or put an adult diaper on it.
That's what they are going to do when you start "leaking" lol!

Well, I apparently was supposed to learn some life lessons working on this POS. I put it back together last weekend and went for a ride - it puked a trail of trans fluid when I pulled back in the driveway.
Upon inspection, I found a few issues: the vent had clogged, the bushing I replaced in the pump moved forward and took out the front seal, and the pump gasket wasn't installed 100% it twisted a tad.
So I ordered another pump gasket/bushing kit and it came in last night at 5 pm. At 9 pm I took it for a ride and while not without issues it's not leaking any transmission fluid for the first time I can remember! Of course, I made a pull on the test drive, and when I shifted into high - it just banged the limiter. Without engine braking, it felt like I broke something.  But when I went to downshift at the next stop, I realized I was just a moron and forgot to put the cotter pin in the shift linkage. Sure as shit the cotter pin was right where I left it on the bench.
Today I fixed the driver's headlight - as it wasn't popping up. Somehow the linkage got bound up on the limiters but after fighting to get it apart, I was able to figure it out and get it all sorted out.
I'm waiting on a patch from Holley as my dash isn't displaying the WBo2 data but other than that, the upgrade from v2 to v3 went flawless and I have some new features to test out.
I think it's ready for an oil change, fuel filter, injectors, and some more boost!

I decided to put the firebird on the lift and pull the trans. Took about 1 hour to pull. As expected the front pump bushing is trashed and took the seal out. I've got parts and a bushing driver set on the way!

It fought nearly the entire way - but it's finally gone.
I spent the day cleaning the shop floor and maybe I can work on my own crap for a bit.

Brand new GM part from rock auto. The box wasn’t damaged in shipping either.

This thing is cursed - it has fought us the entire way. It runs well and sounds good, but the new oil pan is weeping oil. It's a porosity issue its literally seeping thru the pan.

I was making good progress on the wiring until my brother's SUV decided to eat its bearings. The 5.3 that I helped him do a AFM/DOD delete, cam swap last year. The engine was filthy inside and he didn't want to do all the extra work to pull the pan. I guess it's easier to change engines - we've got a 6.0 to replace the 5.3 so it should be a noticeable upgrade.
I figured I'd share my frustrations with you the last picture is me loosening the torque converter bolts, that was the only way I could get them.

Typically AFCO parts are circle track racing. Might be worth a phone call to Afco directly to verify the part will work in your application.
