208/208 cam installed
« on: May 31 2012, 04:32:49 PM »
installed my new cam, lifters, timing chain, and oil pump on friday 5-25-12. went cruising saturday and sunday. it seems to not have the get-up that the other cam had but track time will tell. vacuum went from 14 to 17 with the new cam, still seems low but its running pretty good

It will be weaker at high rpm, but, it should work better with your turbo, I suspect.  Your tuning may have to change

Did you back the alky off because you are only running 20 psi of boost...?

if you have the alky on the suggested default settings, then turn the boost up a couple of pounds...if no knock, turn it up two more for a total of 24

I would leave the boost turn on point where it is...alky will kill the spool if it comes on too early.  I might even put it to 12

Here is my problem.  That cam is about half way between what you had and the stock cam.  It is an easy ten second cam if all else is right.

Your mph is low...I would have expected closer to 110 mph with that et.   Instead, your car is running about like a stocker instead of one that has ported heads and a good cam.  So I wonder about the turbo that is on the car because it seems a bit less than a stock turbo on an I C car from the performance.  Speaking of the intercooler, what intercooler is on the car?  Is it a stock intercooler from an 86/87?

The vacuum is about right for that cam.

Also, what rpm is the tranny shifting at and are you going thru the quarter in third gear?

As Steve said something really wrong to run those times.  Need more info to try and help you out.   I ran better times 20 years ago bone stock with a Kenne Bell chip.

the intercooler is a front mount , as for RPM i dont know, i dont have a tach and scan master is to slow. and yes i am in third at the trap.

what kinda front mount?

It only picked up 20 mph in the last half...I would have expected closer to 24.

Tell me about this turbo again.  Where did it come from?

How about the valve springs?  Did you replace them?  Or know what kinda pressure they are putting out?

Did you notice your O2s on the top end?
