Title: Is a week asking too much gettin parts
Post by: Pyro6 on August 12 2011, 06:03:33 PM
I don't know, just stewing in the fact I can't get headers within a week, I can' get head gaskets within a week, and can't get the right head bolts within a week. Pisses me off. No racing this weekend.

Depends on where they are coming from, and the vendor. But 5 business days from order to receipt isn't asking too much.

Guess we are used to it. By the time sh*t crosses the border it has been some weeks.
There IS a reason Just a Six is  Parts Wh*re.

Yep. 3 suppliers, why should I need them?

So you can at least know when they are getting there. :D

Sarcasm. 3 suppliers

Tracked the #'s Mark. I got disappointed when they only shipped the gaskets this Monday when they were ordered last Tuesday. wtFFFFF. Headers should've been here today. Bolts, who the F knows. They can ship the wrong stuff in 2 days, the right stuff must take a bit longer. Assholes. I'll think twice about supporting people that claim to be supporters of the Buick community. I am just taking full advantage of Mark's thoughtful segment of his board, otherwise I try to stay positive.

Header's are here, bolts are here. Gaskets couldn't make it from one state over in two weeks.

Bah - that sucks.

I ordered a new Spicer 1350 slip yoke from Drivetrain America at 4:48, got tracking info and a receipt at 5:44. :D

Sadly, no

I've had parts with a certain vendor for over a month; little service on the phone, email responses only if prompted and zero info on what is going on... it is enough to want to sell the car and buy a Honda.

Who is the vendor? I want to know to avoid them. There's a few on my list already.

Well it looks like I can start putting this thing back together. My vacuum block from Casper's came today, my stuff from RJC came today: steel shim, intake, VC, and oil return gaskets. Also got the extra rocker arm supports. In the next coupla days the Powermaster is coming off and going to vacuum. I should be up and running to retorque the heads by Thurs.

One of these times I'm going to get a box from a TR vendor that has more parts in it than I ordered instead of missing parts or having the wrong parts in the box.

I will say that at least they got it shipped out pretty quick and they always make it right...but it does get old having to go through this.

...I really miss ATR.

Many have an attitude that they are doing the "small community" a favor, and slack on customer service.one exception id NOS4GN. If he ever got into breaking cars and selling used parts, one sloppy TR parts slinger would be in a world of hurt. Neither have great PR skills though.

I have considered looking into funding/etc to open a TR/Specialty car biz. Not sure if it's worth the headache though.

You might consider a bit longer bolts to go thru the rocker arm supports-good quality, of course

I always felt that ATR was the best in regards to quality and customer service.  Poston's was always really good as well up until the last year or so they were in business.

And I don't think I've ever had issues ordering from RJC, GNS, Old Buick Parts, or NOS4GN (Highway Stars?).  Full Throttle has almost always been on top of things too, I can only remember one instance with them when I got the wrong part sent to me.

But it seems like whenever I order something from Kirbans or Gbodyparts it always seems like there is something missing or something isn't right in the box...but, they both always make it right whenever there is an issue.  I just wish we didn't have to waste time or money for either of us in order to make it right because it does get frustrating when you open the box expecting everything to be in order.

The worst customer service, was when Kenne Bell was slinging TR parts...I hated  calling those guys for stuff.

About the only way I'd venture into a TR business is if I was independently wealthy and was doing it purely out of enjoyment and involvement with the community.

I don't like the way they feel when I torque them. What do you torque them to??., really could they use a thinner  bolt??? I got the extra rocker shaft supports from Jason. I like em.

if I were to torque them, I would use the factory spec.  They just need to be a bit longer to account for the spacer thickness so they have plenty of thread engagement.  Makes it harder to strip a thread

I just got done torquing to 40 ft lbs w/RJC rocker shaft reinforcement kits. I would like to have longer bolts but waiting til Tues. and another setback isn't gonna happen. What I can safely do though is run it through its heat cycles and replace them when I retorque the heads after or during Maple Grove next weekend.?????
