Took down the house and cleaned out the sparrow nests a week after the scouts arrrived.   Nothing like procrastinatio n.  I hope I did not piss them off as I really enjoy the four months of happy chatter they bring along with them.

Hope the rest show up soon before the sparrows start imposing squatter rights again.  Maybe I should inform the sparrows as to the availability of the Wisconsin capitol building?

This is a really nice board and I hate to see people quibbling over relatively unimportant things.  I am well aware that a couple of people consider this to be a private club with a handful of posts a week.  If so requested, I don't mind leaving.  I accept the responsibility for suggesting that people join this board.  Having said that, ...

Personally, I think the word "fuck" is way overused, but, I don't associate "fuck" with respect as I went to an all male military school, worked in the oil exploration business, and have a 28 yr old son that thinks it is the mainstay of his otherwise excellent vocabulary.

I have known Sylvan for a long time and his private conversation reflects a broad knowledge and a good vocabulary and I respect his opinions as much as I do my own so I do not take any umbrage from his public pronouncements .  If he feels that it is part of his public persona, I may cringe at times, but, I did not feed him growing up so it's not a serious concern.  This is the internet, after all.  For some, it is all the life they have.  For others, it is a welcome diversion from reality as well as a great source of knowledge once you learn to separate b.s., agendas, etc. from the truth....and that is not always easy.  Sometimes it takes years for the truth to emerge from the veneer of bias and b.s.

The Net provides a ready outlet to practice our right of free speech no matter what degree of dumbness we may put into cyberspace at times.  I get irritated when some feel their right to speak freely gives them the right to denigrate the beliefs of others even tho' our system clearly allows that right.  It seems to me that if one wants to demand that right, he should allow others the same rights without elevating one right over the other, but, that is what I would put into the class of respect.

That  is sometimes difficult as I sometimes demonstrate with regard to politics, etc.  I have a great difficulty in respecting another's rights when I catch him creating facts or altering them to support his beliefs so that makes me a hypocrite at times.

Anyone that passes by is welcome to spend a few days with me and decide for themselves the magnitude of my asininity. You have to get up and get your own drink as I have not trained a dog to do that as of yet.

Peace out!

IHADAV8 Playground / Charlie....Location of blower motor F 150
« on: February 28 2011, 04:43:21 PM »
blower motor on my '97 F 150 has died after making rattling noises for a few years....I never located it more than knowing it was behind the glove box some where.

Do you know it it is mounted vertically under the dash, or is it mounted horizontally into the firewall or hvac ductwork?

There is so much stuff crammed in there that a quick look did not make it pop out...looks like I may have to pull some stuff out first before I uncover it?  Maybe I need to go get my eye fixed to see if tgwo are better than one?

TEXAS BEER JOINT SUES CHURCH over LIGHTNING STRIKE !
        ONLY IN TEXAS ...

Texas Beer Joint Sues Church In Mt. Vernon, Texas, Drummond's Bar began construction on expansion of their building to increase their business.

In response, the local Baptist Church started a campaign to block the bar from expanding with petitions and prayers. Work progressed right up until the week before the grand reopening when lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground!

After the bar burning to the ground by a lightning strike, the church folks were rather smug in their outlook, bragging about ??? the power of prayer???, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church . . ."was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means."

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.

The judge read through the plaintiff's complaint and  the defendant's reply, and at the opening hearing he commented

IHADAV8 Playground / Libya for Sylvan
« on: February 27 2011, 09:01:27 PM »
I went to Libya in 1966 just short of my 25th birthday.  I went because I found out that the $450 a month that I was making would be raised to $650 and I would be paid approximately $280 a month in local Libyan currency as I would be based in Tripoli.  One would have to be nuts to pass up that kinda money!

Now, like most, I had no idea of life outside the U.S.  Okay, I had no idea as to life is more like it, but, the hippy generation was underway, and things were beginning to look up at home, but, I wanted to get rich quick so I would not have to work all my life.  Everything I heard about Libya was bad and I expected to suffer for the paycheck.  Figured it was a bunch of camel jocks and tents.   Imagine my surprise when the plane was landing and I saw a major city lit up like the Las Vegas strip...okay, a slight bit of hyperbole, but, it was a major sized city.

We should know about Tripoli from the Marines song, Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli..it is an old city, and, has existed in some form since the Romans ruled North Africa.  Like most of the Middle East and North Africa, it has been ruled by numerous external powers, and like most of the area, it had no formal boundaries until after the Second World War.

Before the first War, it was under the control of the Turks who sided with the wrong side in the war and the Italians ended up in charge until the Second War when they chose the wrong side and the Brits claimed it.  Now, I blame the Brits for many of the Mid East problems because the various winners took over and started dividing the area up into new countries and put their favorite allies in charge even if the population did not particularly like these new rulers.

In Libya, they took a desert chieftain of the Senussi tribe and made him King Idris of Libya which I think was about 2.5 times the size of Texas and it had a population of a bit more than a million people at the time consisting of three major groups, the Senussi's in the east (Cyrenaca), a black group way down  south in the lower Sahara (the Fezzan), and some other tribes in the western part which was called Tripolitania.  Beyond these basic groups, there were green eyed Berbers, Touaregs, and other groups that belonged to other affiliations that I no longer recall.  The one clear thing was none of them liked the next.

Like most of the other groups, the population was further divided into the haves and the havenots.  Rich and corrupt, or poor and mean as a sand rattler.

The first thing I learned about Tripoli was that it was paradise for single guys.  There were about three women for each guy.  Most of these women were secretaries imported from Britain and paid about $300 a month and glad to get it it as England was in the midst of its Socialist revolution and people were not doing well at home unless they were labor leaders, or billionaires.

At that time, the Brit birds were way ahead of the U.S. when it came to Sex and Rock 'N Roll.  Even I could get laid whenever I wanted.  No drugs, that was asking to get something cut off and it was not worth the risk.  Being that most guys worked in the desert, it was like shooting fish in a barrel...altho I have never tried that.....

The Italians still had a strong influence and ran large olive groves and the local brewery.  Beer, and all forms of alcohol were availabe as well as a Casino, cabarets, picture shows, etc.  It was very western like, but, probably a bit more corrupt.  There was virtually no customs duty on electronics, cameras, and such so that the normal luxury items were often cheaper than back in the States.  Malta, Rome, Athens, and London were close at hand.  Athens, in those days, would get you a room, a woman, and a meal for about $5.00 for the night.  So would Malta, but, until this day, I have never seen a Maltese that was worth that when it came to looks....

There was also a small Jewish population in Tripoli that lived in what I guess could be called a ghetto but, really, it was just a small somewhat contained area.  No one messed with them because the provided the brains and guidance to the rich Libyans and showed them how to use their money for the maximum return.  Pretty much like a lot of Europe prior to WWII, I should guess.

As a foreigner, we were normally left alone and could go just about any place in the country, if there was a road there in safety.  It helped, of course to speak a little Arabic, or Italian once off the beaten path.

The countryside was very interesting, and, often beautiful  As I mentioned the Romans had once occupied the country and the Phoenicians had once operated ports there.  The best Roman ruins outside of Italy are found along the coast line of Libya.  In some places, the sea had encroached into the cities and if one went swimming one could see marble columns, statuary, etc in the water as well as sometimes find roman coins.  In some of the buildings that were still standing were paintings of how the countryside looked in those days when much of it was grass land and not desert.  There were a few areas not too far from the coast where one could sometimes find hyenas, gazelles, and a small spotted cat that I think was called a serval altho I may be thinking of someplace else.

I wonder if Reagan was running this country today if he would send a couple of gunships off a carrier and solve the problem?

I was living there when he led the revolution against the king and restored true islam with his little green book.....now he is in revolt against the true muslims that he once trumpeted.   gonna need a score card to sort the mid east out pretty soon.

IHADAV8 Playground / So I go to Brady
« on: February 26 2011, 10:24:03 AM »
to the dentist and decide to go to Tractor Supply to pick up some garnite blast media so I can quit dicking around with the control arm off the Challenger and blast it clean to get on with the show.

I get home and look for my old cannister sand blaster...that was Wednesday.  Could not find the damn thing so I decided I need a little sand blasting cabinet anyway...heck, I might use the thing twice in my limited lifespan that is left so the damn thing is down right essential, right?  But over night, one of my friends explains to me that is really not realistic so I go out on Thursday to look again...damn, found it!

So as I am looking at it, I notice it says 50 psi max on the side, but, I don't pay too much attention to that as I don't want to go look for a regulator.  I figure it is way under rated for safety and 75 ft of hose ought to drop the pressure anyway.

Find me a bucket to stick the arm in, fill the cannister with grit, even put some safety goggles over my glasses, and pull the trigger!  Pop goes the cannister as it turns into a balloon, for a split second, I feel the impact of the grit rebounding off the arm and attacking me like a million Lilliputians armed with AK's in a final assault, then all I hear is the hissing of air escaping from places it should not be leaking from and no more sand blasting...did have one shiny spot tho' and it was not the top of my head.

Oh, well, at least I can go buy a blast cabinet....onl y 99.99$ as I don't have to pay tax on farm equipment.  So that concluded Thursday.

Friday, after lunch, I go out and start trying to figure out how to assemble the thing and plumb it up.  This time I installed a regulator even tho it said it would handle 80 psi.   Did not have a hose barb of the right size on both ends so I used a quick connect male fitting in the compressior side of the regulator at the cabinent.  Plug the hose in and KAPOW!  Lound bang and something is beating the crap out of me in the stomach and chest.  Feels like a rattlesnake on steroids for all the hissing going on...either that, or Taylor's mother.

After I realize that I am not at an S&M party, I figure out that the hose blew off the fitting I rigged and is flailing me in revenge.

So that ends Friday.  Getting ready to drive 20 miles to Menard to Napa to see if they have a 1/4x 3/8 hose barb.  At least I can stop by the gun store and bs for a bit on the way back.

A big earthquake with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter scale had hit Pakistan. Two million Pakistanis died and over a million are injured. The country is totally ruined and the government doesn't know where to start with providing help to rebuild.

The rest of the world is in shock.

The USA is sending troops to help.
Saudi Arabia  is sending oil.
Latin American countries are sending supplies.
New Zealand is sending sheep, cattle and food crops.
The Asian continents are sending labor to assist in rebuilding infrastructure .
Australia  is sending medical teams and supplies.

Britain, not to be outdone, is sending two million Pakistanis as replacements!

God Bless the British for their generosity

General Buick Tech / Alternator Selection

Ed wrote about 500 words on alternator selection and I edited it to be about 5000 words so some things never change.  I put it on my site under How To

http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/alternatorselection.htm

I could have edited it to, "Buy a 140 amp CS-144", If I was a real editor, but, what is the fun of that?
